JARDÍN DEL SOL
| ☼ Jardín del Sol took pride in its good location that enabled its guests to enjoy tranquility whilst taking in nature's beauty. Overlooking the town of Marana on a vast 52-hectare portion of Arizona’s Ironwood Forest National Monument near Tucson, the garden of the sun was truly a majestic oasis where guests could go and leave all their worries, stress and problems behind.
Programmes like bird watching, stargazing, nature hikes and trails exercised both mind and body whilst the swimming pool, spa, tennis court and clubhouse provided the traditional centres for socializing. Their numerous RV and camp sites, cabins and rental trailers provided a variety of accommodations for visitors and members alike.
As part of their community outreach, the members of Jardín del Sol adopted the beach along the upper Tanque Verde Falls trail, a popular place to sunbathe by both nudists and textiles.
It was a sad day in 2005 when the club folded but, like the namesake state capital, nudism in Tucson soon rose like a phœnix in the guise of Mira Vista at the old Coyote Moon Resort & Spa.

| It was a shame when Vern and Jan sold out to Mike and Sue. The two ran it into the ground. We tried to get Vern to sell it to us as a co-op later but after getting it back they wanted out and sold it to the California crowd | |
| Bummer about Jardín del Sol. Got there once years ago. Knew friends of the owners at that time. I think it was back in the '90s. | |
| I vividly remember the day that photo of me was taken near the Jardín del Sol sign. I was a typical teenage girl who didn't always like the way I looked, and didn't want anyone pointing a camera at me whether I was nude or not. Mom insisted I just stand still, follow directions and help out the photographer. How lucky am I that some of my childhood memories were so beautifully captured by renowned naturist photographer Leif Heilberg? I loved the time I spent at Jardín del Sol ... a brand new Arizona Wildflower growing up in the Garden of the Sun. Thank you Jan & Vern! | |
| Wow, those are fantastic pictures. What great memories there must be from those life experiences. :) | |
On another post, KAREN writes of her experience, as a fourteen-year-old, seeing an elderly couple at a nude beach enjoying the sun and each other’s company; there cannot be a more idyllic definition of nudity. The socializing, recreation, skinny-dipping, photography, activism or any other tag attached to the word NUDISM is just frosting on the cake.
The American Association for Nude Recreation — née the American Sunbathing Association — encourages everybody to partake in the plethora of wholesome activities available at the various shores, parks, clubs and resorts … or simply be nude! Though it may be too late to celebrate the sun at Jardín del Sol, it’s never too late to create great memories of your own. | |
| I was fortunate to have visited Jardín del Sol before it closed. That day, I was the only one visiting and had the grounds to myself. Luckily ... the female owner wasn't busy and spent some of the day hanging out and we talked about their new plans for the property. Not sure if it panned out or if that idea fell through. Nice place, nice female owner. Her husband was busy doing a few things then he left for town to pick up supplies so I didn't get to talk to him much. Thanks for allowing me membership into this group. ;) | |
| I have some of Leif's photos that he sent to me. I can't post them, but maybe I can send the CDs over to the moderator. I'd love to get an essay from anyone who's in the photos. |
