Anyone know good solid openings for White? I've been playing the London defense/opening but am looking for others to broaden my knowledge base.

I slightly prefer closed games but I am open to all suggestions. Thanks!

I prefer closed games too (and would rather not open up the game until I am ready). I have been using Queen's Gambit as White, but looked into the London system and think I will use that instead in specific situations. As far as openings go, I think the most important thing is to choose an opening that will lead to the kind of game you like to play. I would rather play an opening that leads to my kind of game, than an opening that is theoretically better but leads to the kind of game I do not like to play.

I developed my openings by just playing what I thought was best, and then analyzing my games later with a computer (Fritz or Chessmaster) and discovering what openings / variations / lines I was using. I was surprised to discover that I tend to stay in the book about as long as my opponents, and I do not play any openings that are controversial. If I did not like where an opening led to in a game, then I think of alternate moves, re-analyze the opening with those alternate moves, or search for the new position in the Fritz database of games.
