To shave or not to shave
| I just started trimming everything. I have been shaving my privates for about 2 years now. But just started trimming the rest of my body hair because I do not like to look at another mans body hair, so I thought outhers might not want to see mine as well. My body, My choice. | |
| I have been shaving my pubic area for over twenty years. It makes me feel as naked as I possibly can be and that is how I am most comfortable. It also has always made me feel as clean as I can get. I never could stand how hair was always sweaty. I never liked the look of the hair either. | |
| I like removing the hair from back, shoulders, inside of forearm, hands, butt, crack, sack, shaft and shape the bush. It makes me feel cleaner. To do this I get waxed every 5 or 6 weeks. Much smoother than shaving and makes the skin feel silky smooth. Guys over 55 may know how some hair gets extra long and white as we age. This makes me feel younger too. I don't show the "old man" hairs. Since waxing is a good exfoliant it makes it smooth and keeps it young. So waxing has extra benefits. Try it, it only hurts for a moment. Then you have the benefits. Also when you repeatedly wax the hairs get thinner and sparser. So as it grows in it is barely noticeable. Unlike shaving which can itch like crazy. I use to think I had jock itch and it drove me crazy. It was only the hairs scratching my sensitive skin on my scrotum. Since waxing...no itch. | |
| You have to search online for waxing and call until you find an esthetician that does male waxing. Search for brazilian male, make calls and you should find someone. Here is a listing http://www.europeanskinandhair.com/hairremoval.html I pay $55 for butt, crack, sack, shaft and shape. You have to be specific or they will sell you a manzilian (shaft, sack and bush) for too much. Also ask about the wax they use. For a better wax hard blue works well. Here in L.A. it is hard to schedule because the women who take males for waxing are so busy. | |
| I'm with you, Proud. I enjoy being in my body as it is. I prefer natural on others, too, though it's none of my business. Funny how "natural" has become a minority among naturists. | |
| I don't shave nor does my wife. I used to be quite hairy from my waist down but as I age, I have less hair on my body. Never have had very much hair on my chest. John | |
| My wife likes the fun fur to give her something to grab. Whenever my step-daughter trims my hair I let her shave my back as I have a big clump of hair always between the shoulder blades | |
| There are other reasons to trim other than a fashion statement. I do it for medical reasons. | |
| Couldn't agree more, David. Isn't it funny how no one shaved (look at vintage nudist pics) and then suddenly almost everyone does. I don't know who flipped the switch, but I'm not on that grid. | |
| To Shave or not to shave: LET IT BE. | |
| It's still a matter of personal preference. I don't try to convince others to dep, please don't try to convince me to let it grow. | |
| I perfer to be smooth. Not only is it cleaner, but you can get that all over tan. | |
| Yes, it's personal preference. I don't care what others do and, frankly, this is an over-discussed topics on these forums. I do wonder how the shaving thing got started. That's what is interesting to me. Why did no one shave, then almost everyone did? What started or popularized this trend? | |
| This topic never ceases to amaze me! LOL I find it strange that "nudists/naturists", the supposedly, most accepting people in society, since we accept ALL shapes, forms, genders, sexual preference..etc., people...how we continue to speak..."negatively" about each other! Shaving ones pubic hair is a trend/fashion and for some has been a way of life for many, many years. Regardless of where it began or where it's going...isn't it time for US, the nudists/naturists of the World, to refrain from suggesting that shaving ones pubic or body hair is "cleaner," more hygenic, more asthetically pleasing? And those that do NOT prefer a shaved body...anywhere on the body...refrain from suggesting that a shaved body or pubic area look like a child? We get plenty of negativity from main stream society...why do we continue to do it to ourselves? ;) And...Our mantra should be; We will accept you as you are...not what I think you should be. :) | |
| I agree with Fireproof, It is a personal preference for me to trim/shave/groom as I prefer. I am not trying to get anyone to/not to shave or not. It is my choice just like everyone else. Do what you feel is what YOU want to do. | |
| Its a Personal thing to each there own but I prefer the shaved look for both males and females. The wife and I have been smooth nudists for as long as I can remember. | |
| To shave or not IS a personal choice, for sure. FireProf really nailed it, along with a few others. Stop the negativity - live and let live as long as it causes no harm. And wholesome nudity certainly does NOT cause harm. Jim | |
| Fireprof, I agree with the others, you nailed it, especially with your suggested mantra. Mike | |
| Acolades are very much appreciated but I don't come on here or other naturist sites for them. ;) I have been very fortunate, as I read so many other stories, to have a wife that lives and partakes in a nudist lifestyle. We're also very fortunate that our children respect us and even take part in nude recreation with us from time to time. My main goal is to assist others with similar issues or obsticles we've encountered over the more than 37 years of a nudist lifestyle, raising kids and grandkids, starting out as home nudists/backyard nudists to social nudists and visiting as many nudists venues as we possibly can. One of the things that I found interesting is that no matter what sub-culture you encounter...you'll ALWAYS have those that bring their personal philosophies about EVERYTHING with them. I'd hoped for some Utopian community within the Naturist/Nudist lifestyle where everyone accepted everyone for who they were and not what "they" thought was "normal." But unfortunately found that this is not the case and we are all just human...nudist or not. Hoping that those that are on the fence in many ways and on many issues reflect on postings by those that more "neutral" in their beliefs and philosophies and hope that they will become more open-minded about other issues as they are about the very lifestyle we live. :) | |
| Not to put a jab in on anybody, and I sincerely mean that, but everytime I here this subject come up in a conversation it is usually by somebody that still has not separated nudity for sexuality in their mindset. There is a continuing focus on the pubic region or better yet genitals. I live in a nudist resort... we never talk about shaving or not, it just doesn't come up and not important. I would recommend that if yo are ever in a conversation and this question comes up, answer by asking why they think it is important to ask such question. | |
| AMEN...SunBunny! ;) | |
| Well, SunBunny, I guess you nailed it. Come to think of it, we never get a "do you shave your armpits" thread. | |
| SunBunny, I agree. Every time I see this subject in a forum discussion, sexual issues always seems to be the focus. But I was curious about one thing you said: The subject never comes up at your club. Is that because no one shaves their pubic area or it's just not an issue among your fellow members? If it's the later, I think that's the way it should be. | |
| This topic is like a bad accident... you see it and yet can't stay away from it... I've been looking at it and it kept saying to me, write something, write something... lol... | |
| I think there are about 4 or 5 topics that account for 98% of all threads on nudist forums. But what the heck - as I said, do what you wish, shave or don't. But it seems odd to me how many people incorporate "shaved" or "smooth" into their screen names, as if that defines their identity. That is really strange to me. I'm done. I can quit, really I can...... | |
| I don't think it is a sexual issue at all. Most posts on the subject are either looking for advice or offering experience , preference or opinion. They come from mostly men. Men are rather new to grooming body hair. There are many issues we want to know about including should, how, method, where and etc. Yesterday there was a news segment on taking your man to be waxed for valentines day. They showed nose hairs being done talked about ears and chest. As the reporter signed off she said, "and they even do your naughty bits". Well, imagine discussing male waxing in the 90s let alone the 50's. Obviously at clubs there is no need to ask what you shave, pluck, wax as you have the answer in front of you. People assess others to decide what they want to do. Questions are asked and opinions given. Who would have thought that all over body grooming would become a male issue but it has. Natural, Trimmed, removed how do you get your hair cut? | |
| To answer CarlNudi's question, "Is that because no one shaves their pubic area or it's just not an issue among your fellow members?" I would say that shaving runs about 50%, maybe a little higher for women. It's just not an issue anymore than say if someone has tats. | |
| Two topics that won't seem to die online that are never talked about in real life are shaving and erections. Elsewhere, there are people who won't think twice about getting a tattoo and don't have anything to say about it. | |
| ARE WE ALL BEING PETTY NOW?? People will do what they want, when they want. This is ALL a PERSONAL CHOICE ISN'T IT??? The reason and result are petty arent they?? | |
| There seems to be some truth to the two topics that won't die being shaving (pubic area) and erections. However I don't think it is just online that they won't die.... it is in all media. The question is Why? Back to my original hypothesis... it revolves around sex and beside the fact that sex sells it is also a societal taboo. As has been said in previous posts, maybe the subject was posted here for informational purposes and if so that is fine. We can be adult and helpful. However, I do think we should ask ourselves before we post a question of true personal preference and personal decision, what do you really hope to gain from the information received from a source of anonymity input. Think about it. | |
| I've tryed both. I shaved everything form the neck down and enjoyed the smooth sensual feeling. It was cold, though. I found it hard to maintain, needing to shave more than once a day to avoid the sandpaper feel. So I gave up. I quite like being furry. But if someone asked me to - just for them - I might shave it all off again. I like the look of smooth and hairy nudists, each for their own. I say "nudists" because shaving isn't natural so a smoothy couldn't be a true "naturist" - just a thought. | |
| Here's a thought on why this might be happening. Though it is NOT my position, entirely, ...I only give you the OTHER side of this discussion! For some... This is their only outlet to talk about nudism/naturism and all things surrounding the lifestyle. It's true that some come here for advice on "grooming" standards and there are those that will offer experienced advice on the subject. Others find it a way to open up about their personal preferences and usually...that's when the "debate" begins. Sometimes it's civil...I've seen it turn downright ugly and that is extremely surprising to me and to the "newbie" seeking information...especially on a naturist site! But I've seen people comment on this topic over and over again and it seems that this is the only topic that gets their fingers going on the keyboard! LOL WE are different from mainstream society. Our lifestyle is a personal preference and we expect mainstream society to respect that. It may not be for them but then again...so many of them have never tried it so I find it difficult to understand how they can denounce something they've never tried...even in the privacy of their own home! So why is it that a personal grooming preference gets such a negative label? Shaving has and will always be a topic of discussion because so many can not discuss this topic with friends, family or even loved ones. The mere mention of nudist activities or tendancies to loved ones can spark arguments and disgust. It's an outlet for those that DO shave to talk about it with others and get some positive feedback instead of the constant negative feedback they may be getting at home. BUT...it's the repetative postings of the same discussion over and over again that can be irritating and gets many to roll their eyes at yet another..."Shaving" thread. I'm reminded of a friend that never got to talk about naturism to others except the few nudist friends he had. When we were together...he'd say the words "nude" and "naked" so many times in a sentence and ALL day long til he'd finally go it out of his system! LOL I've even been guilty of this; Explaining that I've done something inside or outside and state that I was naked during that time; I'm a nudist, I'm always naked when I can be...stands to reason if I'm doing anything, within reason, I'm naked...so why do I have to say it!? LOL NOW...that being said; Most naturist websites have a FAQ section and it should be used for these types of questions instead of a new shaving thread every WEEK! ;) | |
| I think it looks cool on men and women, the nudest nudist sort of thing. But it's not for me. I replaced my deck with Trex, I replaced my fence with vinyl and I love my rock garden. I'm all about low maintenance, some places you just don't want a stubble. | |
| I found nudism in 1998, and after my first visit to a resort, I began shaving. I like the look and feel, and it seems the ladies I have been with also like it. I have no thoughts about going back natural. | |
| Why doesn't the admin close threads like this? we pretend we are offended by them, but they continue on and on and on. I thought this site was better than that! I have my fireproof suit on, go ahead with the censorship talk... | |
| My pubic hair did not sprout until after my 19th birthday. By the time I was 24 or 25 it had grown so long that it would catch in my zipper so I started trimming it with scissors. By the time I was 40 I had started to shave it and have ever since. I had always thought that pubic hair fell out like other body hair other than on my head, in my case it did not and became a problem. Now the hair on the top of my head has decided to fall out, just my luck. Where I do not want it to grow it grows and where I want it, it falls out. | |

| Very cute Andy...I am not sure if I got it right but the Nakedist would view it more as a Homophobic weird type of "dude" thing versus the nudists see it rathers a simple preference thing. Anyway, yes these types of threads continue, almost exclusively by males with most not adding any educational value, and usually with the same upmanship or exhibitionist tone. I have heard the cries for help... yeah yeah yeah... look it up on the internet, no need to share here. Dave88, I too wish they would go away... but they will not. I try to look at as a perspective from the non-nudist school of thought or the Nakedist. Sorry folks, I live in nudist environments and we just don't have a pressing need to talk about shaving your balls or who has the longest pubic hair. Time to get on with the real program little shavers. | |
| I have to agree that this is a rather frivolous topic, but since no one else has metioned my means of personal grooming I'll add my two cents. I've used an epilator for several years and I'm quite happy with the results. I never had much body hair so getting rid of it didn't make much difference in my appearance but I enjoy how it feels. The advantages I find to using an epilator are that it doesn't leave stubble like a razor, and of course there's no razor burn. There is some discomfort, but after the first episode it's not bad. | |
| One thing I've realized here on NCH...is that the owner or moderator don't have the ability to "close" a thread after it's run it's course... Why is that??? |
