Let's All Talk NUDE Quietly and Begin to Change the World!
A couple of threads here on Absolute Naturist have provided some BRILLIANT suggestons in opening nude discussions. Read: Quest for Nude Living & T-Shirt Slogan Contest.
Apparel and other items with fun nudist/naturist related slogans are a PERFECT way to talk nude with non-nudists or closeted nudists.

Do you agree/disagree? Do you have the Kahones (sp? you know what I am talking about)to wear a t-shirt or cap like this around friends and neighbors or in public? Experiences and thoughts please? Can you make a pledge to do it at least once in the next month and give us an account of your experiencs and reactions?

I have the cojones :) and I have been doing this more often. I have some nudist resort t-shirts that would only be meaningful to anyone who knew of the resort, but I have been wearing some of my more obvious Naturist Society shirts out of the house lately.

I have a AANR Nudist cap which I have worn to grocery shopping (and that's also where I am employed), but no discussions about it until I came home I mentioned it on Facebook. It may not be as noticeable as the AANR t-shirt I just received, but I need warmer weather to try wearing that. I have worn the cap around my apartment complex, but no one has said anything. I may be up to the challenge.

I too ware the resort and also, have had been asked a about a tee shirt that was provided by the cruse on the bare necessity cruise. That Tee Shirt, I was asked about, That was all I needed to open the conversation about nude recreation and the lifestyle.

Well, I don't have the cap or t-shirt to wear. However, I'm often out and about in just my robe. I'm known as the Wizard of the complex. People, mostly women since that is which gender we see the most of, are always asking s about nudism.

We went to bingo last night and one of the regulars, not a resident, asked my wife about nudism and places we had been. She said that she would be too embarrassed because of how fat she is (not too, I've seen worse) but she did take her top off down to a sleeveless shirt during the game last night.

Yes, Sunbunny, I do have the Cajones(LOL) to wear nudist slogan t's and ball caps. One of my fav's is my Glen Eden ball cap that has two nude characters, man and woman, running and it say's..."Dare to Go Bare"...with Glen Eden on the back.

I also wear a nudist t shirt at least 4 times a week. Don't get alot of comments...but when I do...I mostly get positive feedback.

We will see HOJO’s comment and raise him one to church. Bee and I have matching Polo® shirts from Shangri-La Ranch and have worn them to Sunday services. A visiting couple from Arizona noticed the innocuous logo and said they’ve heard of the place … we handed them one of our Kona Sun Klub networking cards but have yet to find the cojones to give nudism a try!

One of the other things we do to; Talk Nude Quietly, is to leave our naturist publications out and accessible to those that visit our home.

Although they are not out on the coffee table, yet, they are in the magazine basket in the "powder room" all our guests use when they visit.

My wife used to take them out and put them in the office but we have forgotten so many times to do that, that now she just says..."who cares if they seem them," and she just leaves them where they always are...which is what I told her she should do from the get go! LOL

We know that many people, including her mother, have used this bathroom and have seen our naturist publications but have yet to have anyone emerge from the bathroom with one to ask us about it.

I said "You probably wouldent go where I go it's a nudist camp"
To make this brief She said "I need to check that out"

Several years ago, I use to wear a white pocket T-shirt that I ordered from AANR that had the phrase, "I'm completely NUDE under my clothes!" in blue lettering on the pocket. I need to get another one since AANR still sells it.

I often wear a blue polo shirt with the logo from Cypress Cove and the words "Cypress Cove Nudist Resort and Spa." I'm perfectly willing to discuss it with anyone who raises the issue. A casual, "Oh, we went there once," is enough to start a conversation if the person is interested.

AANR (or ASA) used to sell a polo shirt that was embroidered, "Ask me about my tan lines," but they discontinued it years ago before I got up the guts to buy one.

A favorite "discussion starter" of mine is to casually mention, "Oh, yeah, we spent the weekend at a really nice resort near Tampa called Paradise Lakes (or whatever). If the person is "into" the idea of nudism, he or she will recognize the name and same something like, "I've heard of that place . . ." and the conversation rolls on.

Hi there everyone. I have three t-shirts that I like to wear in public. One is my AANR nature trails t-shirt,the second one is a bright green clothesfree.com shirt and my newest shirt is from Ocoee River Rafting which my brother-in-law gave me and it says RAFT NAKED it adds color to your cheeks which is also bright green. I,ve had a few people talk about them at work and I tell them I'm a naturist. Some will joke around about it, one lady said she has gone to nude beaches, but most were not interesred in trying it. So I can say I do some quiet advertising.

One of my step sisters whom I haven't seen in a;most 20 years lives in San Antonio. She's having troub;e at work and made a joke about becoming a stripper on facebook. One of her friends commented that it would be better than just running around her living room naked. This got me curious so I messaged her asking if she was a nudist and told her we go to resorts. She said no that she avoids mirrors because she thinks she's too fat and has stretch marks but said she thought it was good my wife and I had the confidence to go nude. I explained to her that it's not about seeing others or being seen and about the shapes sizes and ages of nudists and suggested she look at the first time articles by women on AANR, clothesfree and netnude. Hopefully she'll give it a look.

The older I get, the less quiet I am. This year's trip to Bavaria was quite an experience and great comfort to me as a "prefer to be naked" person. Many places were coed and there was no concern about nudity. This included camp cabins, showers, massages, the English Garden (Central Park of Munich, changing areas, sauna, spa pools, and etc. I openly share this information with those I associate with. A few are disturbed by it, most smile and say "not for me, I'm not brave like you", and a few say "sounds great, I must give it a try". From all but the first group I experience greater respect for my openness.

The T-Shirts are great ideas, as well as just not hiding this part of ourselves. Expressing your "preference to be naked" I think requires more confidence than the act of being with other people secluded and participating in social nudism. Expressing not only bares the body but bares the self?

Thank you barefreedom ... I have mentioned the openess of Europe when it comes to the nude body and to nudism many many times in several threads here on NCH...I truely enjoy the fact that Europeans are far more comfortable with nudism than Americans are... no need to shout about it there...I mention it to people all the time here in the states with virtually the same results.."OO I could NEVER do that"..."I can't believe you ACTUALLY" would do that...yada..yada..yada..it's too bad .. nudism is such a wonderful life style..

I'm not bashful about talking about nudism. On the other hand I don't flaunt it around either. I'd say about 75% of the people I mention it to respond positively. One couple we hang out with is going to join us at Lake o' the Woods over labor day. A vendor of mine, a woman, says she'd love to try it but will need to talk her overweight, out of shape husband into it. I thought that was interesting - it's usually the other way around.

I'm still posting fairly regularly to Craigslist to encourage people to check out the AANR website. The most recent example: My GF and I, (we're in our 50's,) will be spending an entire day this weekend playing in the sun...naked...with a lot of our friends. People all over west Michigan participate in nude recreation. Swimming, hiking, volleyball, sunbathing, tennis, canoeing, and dozens of other nude activities are available to everyone. It doesn't matter what you look like, it doesn't matter how fat you are or where your scars are or what your age is, all are welcome. Visit aanr.com and search for the AANR affiliated clubs and resorts in our area. They're fun. They're friendly. They're family oriented. Make a visit this weekend...for fun...you won't be sorry.

I have gotten 2 positive responses to the 3 times I've posted and not one negative response
One of our favorite T-shirts has a goofy bear and underneath are the words.."Bear Naked in Canada" It sure gives people a chuckle. We are proud as punch to wear it whether we are in the U.S. or home in Canada

We have a few more references to our nude lifestyle in our home. Pictures, art, fridge magnets, naturist periodicals and our wallpaper picture on our laptop! Fridge magnets..."Zero to Naked in 1.5 glasses" (Wine bottle in background), AANR - "Come Skinny Dip with us", Corona magnet - beer bottle without lable- "Nude Beach", a few others I can't remember.

Just lent our laptop to my sister and her husband a few weeks ago, to look up some information and check their email while they were staying with us for a couple nights. Our brother in law commented on the picture and asked..."did y'all go skinny dippin' someplace together!?" I said, "yeah, the Caribbean!" He wanted to talk about it more but was interupted by his kids and never got to..except to say...."wow, y'all's pretty progressive!"

I'd also have to say that as I get older...I don't talk as "quietly" about nudism and our lifestyle as I once did.

:)

Here's my latest Craigslist ad:

The weather is a little iffy this weekend but my GF and I are planning another day of nude fun at one of our local AANR affiliated nudist resorts. This time we're going with another couple we know who've never been to a nudist resort but are curious and accepted our invitation to go. We'll take picnic food, sunscreen, reading materials and swimming towels and probably not much else. If the other couple is like most it'll take about 3 minutes for them to be comfortable being around a whole resort full of nude people. We'll spend the whole day relaxing, swimming, laughing and enjoying the late season sunshine washing over us. If you're like our friends and are the least curious about social nudism, check out aanr.com to find the resorts in our area. Find out how amazing it is to stash your cares at the gate. People of all shapes, sizes and ages are welcome. You won't regret it.

Good Job! Maybe more of us can do something like this. Basically a broadcasted invitation to join you at a AANR affiliated nudist club. Facebook could work easily for this also. Let us know how it works for you.

It's the 4th time I've posted to Craigslist like this. A lot of people on this board poo-poohed the idea because of the pervs that inhabit the personals on CL. I always post to the "strictly platonic" section, I always post for a region - West Michigan, and I always direct responses to a throwaway email address. I never invite people to join us or mention exactly which club we're going to, but rather direct them to the AANR site to find out more. Out of 4 posts I've gotten 3 very positive responses which I didn't respond directly to. My posts are always positive and upbeat and emphasize the fun and the inclusiveness of nude recreation. I'll keep doing it and maybe others can pick up and do it in their area too.

I have a tee shirt from the 2010 Bare Burro 5K at Olive Dell that I have worn a few times when going to the store, gas station, etc. My problem is I find tee shirts uncomfortable around my neck.
This year, prior to the World Naked Bike Ride in Los Angeles, I made a sign that I put on my bike announcing the upcoming ride. I rode around various areas of the San Fernando Valley and along popular bike paths but never had anyone stop and ask questions about the ride.
At work I have a scenic picture I took at Deep Creek Hot Springs as the screen saver on my computer. It does not show any people but it does show the beauty of the area. I have had two customers ask about where the picture was taken as it looked like a nice place to go to. In both cases I told them about the hot springs and how it is traditional for people to be nude there. The first person I told responded that would be fine and would have no problem going nude there. The second person was not comfortable with the idea and said that there was no way he would consider going there. I suppose that having a 50% positive response rate is good, I just wish there was a way of bringing it up more often without creating stress for other people.

I've found that almost no one I meet has the "cojones" to comment on my tee shirt's message. I suppose there might be some comment behind my back but the topic of nudism seems to be very difficult for others to discuss.

Every chance I get I direct people to AANR.com. Just today on Yahoo Shine there was an article about the great reasons to be nude. My response was entirely positive and mentioned the aanr website. I hope 20 or 50 or 200 people take a look.

I agree that just about everyone today wears some sort of t shirt/top with graphics, printed messages, logo's on it and "our" nudist t shirts kinda blend in...

but I continually wear them and have gotten a few questions or comments. Most recent one was from a young girl behind the counter at one of the Starbuck's I frequent.

It was a nude beach t shirt and she asked which one my t shirt was referring to. I told her San Onofre, she commented that she'd heard of it but never been. We talked a bit, told her about it and she comment she might try it with her BF or girl friends.

So...even though our nudist t shirts may get lost in the crowd of t shirt wearing masses...I still wear them in hopes of getting at least one question or comment! And I agree with you that we should keep wearing them regardless.

I am trying to think of something I can have printed on a T-Shirt that speaks to this almost backdor approach. Anybody have any ideas?

I posted to this topic last year about how it is important to both talk nude quietly as well as promoting it in a more public way.
I have now participated in three world naked bike rides in order to promote body acceptance in a very public forum.
Until recently my quite promotion has been limited to wearing a t-shirt from the Olive Dell Family Nudist Resort 5K run I did in 2010. Unfortunately I am not allowed to wear it to work and it seems that out in public nobody even notices what it says.

I posted this first account in the driving nude group but it is also relevant here.
I was driving home from work this past Wednesday, nude of course, when one of my sisters called to say she needed a ride to the store. Now all of my family know I am a nudist, but not that I drive nude as well. I decided to tell her that I was nude and did not really want to have to put on my shorts in order to take her to the store but would if she was not comfortable being in the car while I was nude. To my surprise she said Ok, stay nude.
I called her when I go to her apartment building to say I was there, but did not mention that I was going to stay nude. She came out, got in the car and not only said it was OK this time but in the future I could be nude whenever she needed a ride.

Yesterday I found another opportunity to promote nudism.
I work in a small warehouse in an industrial area in Valencia, CA. Our business sells cabinet hardware to cabinet shops and to the general public.
It has been very hot and humid this past week and I would often unbutton my shirt and even sometimes take it off during the day. I would put it on if I saw a customer coming but yesterday my boss came in and saw me with my shirt open. He knows I am a nudist but wanted to make sure that I would always be “properly attired” if any customers came in. Naturally I told him of course.
Now until a few months ago all the other tenants in our building normally leave at 5:00 PM.
Anytime I have to work late, I would be nude and when leaving stay nude going out to the car.
One of our customers, a cabinet shop, has moved into the unit two doors down from ours. The last few weeks one of the employees has been working late so I have not been able to be nude after hours. I will however just wear shorts and sandals when leaving.
After the comment by my boss I decided to use that as an excuse to ask him how he felt about me only having shorts on. He said it is no big deal for him. It was at this point that I decided to go further and tell him I am a nudist and when everyone else leaves I would work in the nude. He said again that that would be no big deal and I could be nude anytime I wanted. I returned to our unit were I stripped nude and continued to close up and take my things out to the car. We were not outside at the same time so he has not actually seen me nude yet, but now that I know he is OK with me being nude I know that it is only a matter of time before that happens.

I apologize for the length of this post but I wanted to let everyone know that you never know when you will have an opportunity to tell someone that you are a nudist and to always try to take advantage of every chance that comes along.

J.P., those are two great accounts of positive reactions to announcing to others you're a nudist.

I don't really think we know how others will respond until we show or tell them who we are - nudists.

It really seems many people are far more accepting than we would ever believe if we didn't share our message with them.

Thanks for that great story JP!
Jim, you are absolutely correct in your statement that we do not know how people will react until you tell them, until then it is just a guess.
It has always been my experience that when you tell someone who knows you, they usually react in a positive way because they know you and know you are a just a regular person like them, not a weirdo sex deviant that some percieve nudists to be. Again, Good Job!

I have been spreading the word in almost every venue I find myself in. Just this morning at a local grocery store, one of the checkout girls remarked on my tan, so I quietly told her that I like to spend a lot of time outdoors, then she asked me if I was a nudist and I said yes I am, then she asked if there were any places. Nearby that she might check out because she had been thinking about looking into social nudism , so I told her about the three resorts in the area, so maybe she will check them out and get into this life and have some fun. I also told her about the AANR website, and she said she would look it up, so heres hoping....

WOW, another excellent story/experience. Thanks DiabloBlanco. It just go's to show that the world is opening up a bit more and we can all help it with execellent opprtunities like this. Maybe I am full of it, but I am begining to think many people are wanting to find out a little more about nude recreation opportunities but don't know where to look for good or credible info. We can all be the credible info resources, why not.

In addition to what you did Diablo, I usually carry small printed card (like the kind you print yourself on simple card stock) with the websites of resources like AANR /Naturist Society/ local clubs and my email address. I have handed them out at the grocery store, nail salon, food places, department stores and other places where the opportunity arose. That way you don't have to get into a long discussion about it right there and then and they don't have to try and remember the info. They can look resources up on their own time and explore them. To me, this is definitely talking nude quietly, the topic of this post. Maybe you can try it and tell us how it works for you. So far my experiences have been very positive.

We were constantly looking for paper and pen to write our address down, phone numbers, email addresses, when we met someone at a club or resort we wanted to stay in contact with.

We finally got business cards printed up with Vista Printing, online. But ... I never thought to also put on the cards that we were AANR and TNS members or members of Glen Eden Sun Club.

That's a pretty good idea and a great "opening" for conversation about what we are and what we do.

I have now placed a AANR bumper sticker on the window where people can see when they pass by my apartment. They'll have go to the website that is given on it to see where the sticker is from. On the Internet itself I reposted AANR's National Nude Day photo, but I've yet to get any comments or "likes". But people (co-workers and family) are starting to realize that I'm a nudist, and I hope it's a matter of time when someone inquires about it.

network card

Some effective ways to spur conversations have been A) wearing our shirts from the different clubs/resorts we’ve visited; B) keeping various nudist publications in the seatback pouches of our vehicles; and C) having our networking cards at the ready for interested parties. We have received, even in the up-tight repressive atmosphere of small-town Hawai‘i, what would be considered as positive responses — albeit the majority of those coming from visitors as opposed to locals.

Thanks!
The older I get the more open I am about it. The cards are a good idea. I think I might have a T-Shirt printed up with just a big smartphone QR bar code that leads to a nudist website. I'm thinking everyone will click the code to see what it is. Good conversation starter.
