Complacent Nudists
| Nudists and many Nudist organizations appear to have become complacent in their movement towards nude social acceptance. True, there have been many gains in the past decades upon which you may rest your laurels, but the trophy of nude social acceptance is far from won. Where are you on the Complacent Nudist scale? Why? | |
| Not very...LOL Maybe about a 2 on a scale from 1-10 I try and push it as much as I can without ending up in jail! ;).......more later! | |
| I actually feel we are losing the battle for social nudist rights. And living near San Onofre where they have started issuing tickets to the local nudies has dampened my hopes of future nude acceptance. | |
| Don't want to hijack SB's thread. Check out San Onofre group for updated information. FP :) | |
| A couple things. One I joined the group because of the interesting topics that are discussed. Second I don't agree with the " we should be able to be nude any where we want" thread. And third if I here about someone complaining about San Onofre on NCH one more time I'm going to kill myself. ALL TICKETS HAVE BEEN DISMISSED, IF YOU CARE ABOUT THIS BEACH THEN GO TO IT! I HAVE RECEIVED 2 TICKETS SO I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASSES AND GO TO SAN ONOFRE! | |
| Nilo! I would if I lived closer, sorry. John | |
| As I've said many times before, at the chance of sounding like a broken record, I'm a newbie nudist, so I'm not sure whether longtime nudists have become complacent or not. However, I too like to try to push the envelope, even though in the past I've been suspected of exhibitionism and cautioned by others who think I may be trying to push too far, too fast. NOTE: I've never yet been called an exhibitionist by my textile neighbors who may or may not have seen me dressed in my open robe walking to/from the mailbox, taking out the trash, or standing with my daughter as she smoked her cigarettes in the front yard. All comments, rather, have come from those on this and other sites who proclaim themselves to be nudists. Jim | |
| I don't see it as being complacent. I'll use me as an example. I have spent an enormous amount of monies in my education to arrive at my level of expertise. Many of my licenses are approved by the state and or licensing boards. Any indication of what either the state or the Licensing Boards feel is inappropriate behavior and my licenses are history and I can no longer legally practice. So while I am very much in favor of nudist to be treated equally in American society , I have to be cautious and protective of my licenses and business for my livelyhood.I know it is a vicious circle and probably counter productive for me as a nudist but at this point in my life it is the best that I can do. It is why I enjoy traveling over seas so much because their attitude toward nudism is much much more tolerant. I think there are alot of other nudist that are in the same situation in their particular jobs. | |
| TexasnNewd, I feel for you. But, you're right, due to the "inappropriateness" of nudism, as seen by many in government (I wonder how many secetly harbor wishes of being openly nude in public, social settings), it is necessary to safeguard one's practices at times. I, fortunately, don't believe I have anything to fear in my job as a casino/resort Security Officer here in Las Vegas. However, I'm still having a hard time revealing my choice to live as a nudist to family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, though I want to do so in hopes of some of them joining the lifestyle themselves or at least tolerating those of us who do enjoy living as nudists. I was for far too many years a non-nudist, since I just adopted nudism last year at age 61. Therefore, I guess, there's still anxiety about being rejected by those around me. But, I'll keep pushing the envelope bit by bit in hopes of revealing to others I am a nudist and hoping to find others who want to join me. It has worked in at least one instance where I told a coworker who admitted she likes to sunbathe and swim nude at home and desires to visit a nudist resort. But, even she will not go naked in front of her children who are in their 'tween or teen years. Jim | |
| NOTE: This was in response to a post that has been removed by the poster. I don't remember who that was but they were talking about doing housework in the nude and telling people on Facebook about it. Some of you may have read it. This post does not make a lot of sense now but the Facebook thing is interesting so I am leaving it here. SB Huh? Not sure how this fits in the posted topic to be honest with you. Are you saying that posting on Facebook about doing your house work nude is being an activist? Maybe you can clarify your intention. As far as Facebook, not my cup of tea. What's the point of talking nudist stuff to a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that probably still equates nudity with sex and probably in the end just considers you a freak or perv or exhibitionist of some sort. It does nothing to further the cause for acceptance of nudist living. Just think about the responses you got. If you are looking for a dialogue, maybe you should consider just placing subjects/posts on NCH. That what this is for and at least most of us here get it. Your call. | |
| I have tried to tell some that I know that are not nudists about how nice it is to work in our yard or go sailing, swimming nude and to nudist resorts. Some think I am now crazy and others are indifferent about nudity. I am beginning to think that people in this country have been brain washed so much to think that social nudity is sex that we are having a hard time overcoming the bias. As to the Facebook I agree 100% that it is not the place to post about nudist life style. I had a face book account as my wife has family in Germany that wanted to use it to post family photos and things going on with them there. I see Facebook as a vast way to have my identity stolen if there is too much about me on there and I shut down my Facebook account. Before I turned it off I would get friend requests from people I did not know and they would want information about things I like to do. We have this on here but at least we know that we are almost all nudists with the possibility of a few voyagers getting in. | |
| Facebook has it advantages...but it isn't the means to an end with getting "outta the closet" about being a nudist. In my account, I have join FOSOB (Friends of San Onofre Beach), AANR, AANR West and the Terra Cotta group. What this does, for me,...is allows an open door for those of my friends and family that have questions about the "groups" I like and why I like them. I'm not complacent but I'm not going door to door with the neighbors and professing my love for nudism or our lifestyle. I try not to be an exhibitionist but don't hide my nudity within our backyard. I've been seen by the neighbors next door and across the street and they still talk to us, wave and are friendly. I don't purposefully expose myself to them but if they happen to see me when I going about my usual routine...I don't hide. I think that's what they appreciate. You can only do so much as far as "advertising" you life or lifestyle. Wearing t-shirts, ball caps and taking advantage of conversations to educated those around you, that aren't nudists, is a way of "exposing" more of the lifestyle and answering questions and dispelling myths. I'm out to explain, truthfully, what nudism is and how we live our lives...not to convert everyone I come in contact with. Conversion happens on their own, not because I've sold them on it. I don't believe in ALWAYS taking the road of political correctness. Fighting for what you believe in is also important and necessary. Trying to work "within" the system doesn't always work and at times when the "system" won't work with you...you have to fight for what you know is right and just. I'm not very complacent at all really. I should amend my original 2 or a 0... LOL :) |
