My "s" signifies my inner strength
I feel my tatt represents my individuality, independence, and my defiance of society's sheeple.

I got my first tattoo in 1992 in New Orleans; it's a sun, and I chose that because I had just written and directed my first musical, in which I played a sun. The other is the Gemini sign. I am a Gemini and I think I am a pretty classic Gemini at that!

My first tat is a Saturn-like ringed planet on my upper left arm, and this was an done as original artwork more than 20 years ago. The art could have followed my sketch a little closer, but I gave the apprentice tattooist "artistic license" to create the best version of my sketch she could.

A star rising above the planet was supposed to be throwing rays of light towards the viewer, growing faint as they radiated outward from the planet, and the rings should have had a shadow cast upon them by the planet. This did not turn out exactly as I wanted it, but I was happy with the results nonetheless. This was done at Dr. Who's Tattoo in Isle of Wight county and I got tattooed along side my mother! (neither of us was influenced by inhibition lowering substances at the time)

My second tat is ~ 1 yr. old and a tribute to my never ending faith in imagination and creative visions of Science Fiction! Given that nearly all of our modern day gadgets were, at one time, envisioned in the pages of a Sci-Fi magazine, book or screenplay, I view the genre as the "Wading pool of inspired genius"! Look at our cellphones and think back to the Star Trek Communicator as an example. My Sci-Fi tattoo is a cross between Alien Artifact (with a Mayan or Aztec gold flavor) and Post-Industrial Cybernetic gadget (ala The Terminator) and it was also done MORE accurately and realistically than my ringed planet by Blue Horseshoe Tattoo owner studios Chris in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Tattoo art is YOUR SIGNATURE or demonstration of faithful appreciation on a body created by God/Nature, in my hopefully humble opinion. I just hope in the after-life someone does not ask, "Why did you defile my work?!?" ~ that would $uck.

~
I have 9 tattoos, and most of them signify my wild and adventurous nature. Four of them say "Carpe Diem", "Life is too short", "Wild at heart" and "Live like you were dying". One is a pair of lips on my ass, telling the rest of the world to "Kiss my ass" if you don't like the way I am. I have one Harley tattoo for my time on the road, and a couple Indian and tribal tats as a connection with nature and the spiritual side of life. I have pictures of most of them on my page. Stop by and check them out. Still planning number 10.

I have two tattoo's, a winged serpent with boob's that I got twenty plus years ago after a divorce. I guess it was a symbol of being free. The other I got about six months ago and is a stick figure of a kayak paddler, because I am a kayaker.

this starts 20 years ago with my first tat, a small rose, means I was really drunk at the time... my next tat, a skull with top hat, means I became addicted to tats because of that first drunken moment and want more... my third, a longhorn across my upper back, 17 years after the first one, means I waited too long to get it and had to wait until I didn't have to buy anymore diapers in order to afford it... my fourth, a star with ropes, is part of my search for the artist who will do my next work... my next, in the planning stage, which will be the most meaningful to me it's going to be a half sleeve of my four daughters' birth flowers...

My tat---long story--but to sum it up--its a purplish blue heart (blood before air is not red)with a set of angel wings for my deceased daughters, with smoke to indicate the life being sucked out of my heart -- But that was then and now I want to re-visit it--maybe, have a light purple rose blended into the smoke to remember my sister---and my next tat in the works is a broom stick with a halo hanging off the end--just to remind my friends when I drop my halo--I can still ride a broom----LMAO----SMILES!

All my tats are deeply spiritual to me and would take detailed explainations - but the key is to remember spiritual lessons and events in my life.

I have 2 tattoos. The first one I had made a bet with my friend that the Red Sox were going to go to the World Series in 04. At the time they were about 10 games behind the Yankees, so my friend said, yeah right. I told him I'd get a Red Sox tattoo if they made it to the World Series. Once they beat the Yankees in the ALCS, my friend called me and I got the tattoo the next day.

My second is a family crest. I'm not sure if it's my actual family crest since my last name is one of the most common last names in America, but it has my name on it and it's Swedish like me, so I decided to get it.

What a great way to introduce oneself in this group -- tell why you got a tattoo and what it means. Well, as I was growing up in the 1950s my Uncle Johnny, who was a Navy veteran, had the typical tat of a big-busted naked lady on his forearm. I always looked up to my uncle, thinking he was the coolest. So, I decided when I grow up, I'm going to get a tattoo of a naked lady on my arm. Well, I finally ignored the family pressure of not having tattoos and got myself inked when I was 35 years old in 1985. Of course, at that age and during that time have a tattoo of a big-busted naked lady on your forearm was not very politically correct, and I didn't think it was very respectful to women. So having journeyed to Spain about 15 years earlier when the country still used pesetas, I had a few unspent notes in my dresser drawer. The pesetas, like most European money was very colorful and depicted the artistic heritage of that wonderful Mediterranean country. The ones I kept had a line drawing of Goya's (a famous Spanish artist during the 1800s) "Naked Maya," so to still have a naked lady on my forearm, but with a little class, I had the artist copy the famous painting. I've always felt subject matter also reflected my love of being naked. Since I got that tattoo, the only one, I've wanted to get one of Michaelangelo's "David" on the other forearm, just so I don't come across as a sexist, but unfortunately I've never seemed to have the extra cash to have it done. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My tats have no meaning.. My rose was put on by Lyle Tuttle in 1976. The rest because I like them. The Indian girl is a cover up.

My Chains symbolize my being a "bondservant in service to God." My cross is a cross. My Eagle and US Flag are for my USN Service. My eagle wings in back are noted by Isaiah 40:31, one of my favorite verses.

Right now, I just have the Japanese kanji for Dragon. I plan to get the kanji for Tiger. Dragon Tiger has different meanings; in my case, the meaning is "Honored Warrior". I plan get a dragon and tiger next to the kanji. The images also have meaning; Yin Yang.

After that, I want geisha, fu dogs, kanji for Ox (I was born in the year of the Ox), and for harmony, prosperity, happiness, and longevity.

I love the beauty of Asian tattoo, and the fact that it has meaning.

My Tattoos have a variety on meanings, example:

Life and death, the spiritual part of me, fears, my strengths and weaknesses, the women in my life, my kids, the meaning of man and woman, relationships, values, just to mention a few.

If I could write a story for each of mine, I'd have to do a question and answer for each..
My blue butterfly tattoo symbolizes the newness and rebirth of my life after I got my divorce from my abusive and controlling ex.

After numerous trips to Mexico, Belize and the rest of the Mayan Empire, I have my Wife's name in Mayan as a half sleeve with Chocmol and the Leopard Gods.
I have a shark tattoo on my right hip that is dedicated to a good friend, my best man, and one hell of a guy, that passed away.
My next tattoo, which should be at the end of the month, is a Sailor, Firefighter, Police (bomb squad) half sleeve with the Submarine Dolphins, with my Fire,Police, Rescue Diver and EOD Badges as a Tribal arm band. These are the jobs I've held in life.

I'm new to blogging and this group but to add my tat2 cents this tat is a sea turtle 5" or so covering a stab wound turned vericose bloom on my right bot cheek-long/short story got a pen in my butt from wrestling w/ my older bro when I was 10yo never got him back for that- regardless my turtle stands for the low and slow way I fly as an ultralight pilot and the sea creature I've had the priveledge to swim with in Kauai also it's a simple way to live my life - low under the radar and slow enough to stop and smell the roses or nibble a bit of algae if you're a turtle - Sandnude

First and foremost, thanks for letting me in the group. I have 3 tats. The first tat took me 2 1/2 yrs to draw/translate/complete 85% of the design. My artist, Jimmy, redrew portions and rearranged others and finished pulling the design out of my head. The focal points are the kanji that read; honor, strength and courage. These kanji surround a picture of a ninja next to a tree with the clouds behind him drawn as a grizzly. The kanji are separated by a ying-yang, an infinity symbol and a cross. I got this after college and before marriage. It represents how I strive to live every day of my life in all situations with honor, strength and courage.
Many of you will think my tat is nuts but it is mine and it is one all in my family now have. We all have tic tac toe on our right lower back..ie love handle area..What does it mean for us..we are fun loving unique and jokingly our family crest. They have all been done to look as though a kid has played a game on us with a sharpie...when out we are always complimented on them and have been asked on may occasion to line up for a pic. My oldest son got his first when he turned 18. He called our neighbor who had a young son and asked if he could play tic tac toe with him The neighbor was hesitant and asked why but once explained that it was for a tat they agreed. His was done at a parlour that was frequented by the Hells angels. The artist when he saw what he wanted showed everyone in the parlour ..even the bikers in there and they allthought it was the coolest thing ever. Six months later the rest of the family had theirs done. We like it and enjoy the conversation that it promotes and we have made many friend because of them.
