Questions for single/solo males
| Have you personally, as a single/solo male, ever been denied entry to a nudist club or resort because you were a single/solo male? Were you an AANR or TNS member when you were denied? Which nudist club/s or resort/s have denied you admission? Have you personally, as a single/solo male, been allowed entry to a nudist club or resort? Which nudist club/s or resort/s have allowed you to visit while single/solo? | |
| Only place denied was Cedar Waters which has always had a strict couples and families policy. Policy the same. Accepted. Solair Berkshore Vista Full Tan Penn Sylvan Sunshower Indian Hills Broken Arrow (closed) CMR club Sun Ridge Stony Acres (closed) There was another one in Ohio which no longer exists. Can't remember the name. There may be one or two I forgot. I got my AANR at Stony Acres in '81. Before that, mostly went to the nude beach, which was closed to 'protect the plovers'. | |
| I should answer my own questions I suppose. Never. Have not always been an AANR member but I am now. N/A Every time. Sunshine Gardens (closed) Sunny Haven Forest Hills Lake o' The Woods Cypress Cove Paradise Lakes (run the other way) Turtle Lake Resort | |
| So then Kamodo I'm pretty sure your answers to the questions would be: No No None No None If these are not the correct answers please let me know. I'm trying to tabulate the results. BTW I've seen several lesbian/gay couples at resorts I've visited. Or at least I think they were. They, like everyone else, were not advertising their sexuality. There's a resort in PA in the Poconos that is welcoming to gays and annually hosts the Gay Naturists International gathering of several hundred men, almost all of whom I'm guessing are technically single. | |
| Kamodo, the club we belong to in WA had a single, gay, male as president! The clubs I have been around have single gays, single straights, gay and lesbian couples and guys in transition. As a single, I joined a club became a member of AANR and visited others (Lupin, Shangri La and Desert Fountain Inn) with no problems. Methinks the problem is mainly in your head, dude. | |
| I'd like to get back to the topic please. So far I'm seeing 2 clubs out of 20 that have prevented singles/solos from attending. An obstacle for sure but not the lifestyle ruination people continue to complain about. Kamodo, I can't address your finances and that is a different topic altogether. As to welcoming and inclusive? You've been welcomed and included here at Nudist Clubhouse as far as I can see. I have a difficult time seeing how you can feel unwelcome or excluded at all the nudist clubs in this country since you've never been to one and, by your own admission, you refuse to go. I think you'd find there are lots of places you can visit but you have to give yourself a chance to let them give you a chance. | |
| A clarification here. It might take you going to two or three clubs to find the one you feel most comfortable in or one that meets your price range. It is like anything else. Some folks are vegetarians, others like seafood or meat. Same with clubs. | |
| So far I have not been turned away anywhere so I guess my answers are: No No None Yes, every time Mira Vista Turtle Lake I make it a point to call ahead to be sure there won't be a problem. I have always been made to feel welcome and hope this continues. I plan to visit some new clubs this year and will steer away from clubs where I hear of issues. I also prefer the term "solo male" since I'm not single but, at least for now, I'm not visiting as part of a couple. Hoping this can change. | |
| No, I've never been denied, but I've only tried to go to two resorts. I am an AANR member. I've been allowed into DeAnza Springs and Sunny Rest as a solo male. I would like tovisit Sky Farm in NJ, but haven't yet since it usually indicates it leans toward couples or families. It'sless than 10 miles from my house. Has anyone had any experience here as a solo male? | |
| Well, I've never shown up and been denied but I also do the research first to avoid the embarrassment of being turned away. There have been several that I've wanted to visit, but cannot because my wife doesn't participate. Bar-S-Ranch near me immediately jumps to mind (it's notoriously anti-single male). I've never visited a club and NOT been a member of AANR. I've been allowed to visit every time, but again, I always do my research and make my calls first. I've been to: Cypress Cove Carolina Foothills Resort (I've heard some negative things but I've never seen anything out of line) Riverside Ranch (Back when it was a nudist resort) Paradise Lakes (I've always had a good time during the day, but I leave prior to it getting swinger-ish at night. That's not what I'm there for) | |
| I am an AANR Member and have never been turned away at a AANR Club . But I always research before I go. I do notice that when I go with a friend ie: female I am treated different but I think that is true in all walks of life. People are just more accepting of couples. I looked up the Bar S Ranch. I wouldn't go there anyway unless they were hosting a convention or something way to expensive. I found this on there website........... "Membership may be extended to persons of all races, nationalities and religious beliefs. We do however wish to retain a sexual balance in our adult population on the grounds at any given time. To achieve this, the Bar -S- Ranch reserves the right to refuse admission to any single member or guest at any time that the population on the grounds equals or exceeds 25% imbalance (ie, a 5 to 4 ratio)" | |
| An interesting tally folks. The results indicate visits to clubs all around the country. There were 30 clubs mentioned. A couple are no longer in operation but I counted them anyway because when they were open they allowed single/solo male visitors. Leaving them out wouldn't significantly skew the results IMO. Out of the 30 mentioned only one, Terra Cotta, absolutely does not allow single/solo males. According to my math that means 97% of clubs allow single/solo males to visit. This poll did not address allowing single/solo males to become members, only visiting. One club, which I did not count because the respondent evidently didn't actually try to visit, says it "reserves the right" to limit single visitors to maintain gender balance. They do not say they exclude single/solo males. That's why it always makes sense to call ahead. This is admittedly a small sample size, only about 11% of AANR clubs, but I think large enough to draw a conclusion. I hereby declare the myth that a preponderance of clubs exclude single/solo males is debunked. | |
| I generally do my homework before I go to a place to see if singles are allowed/not-allowed. If not-allowed, I simply don't go. Therefore I've never been denied as a single male. Once I went to Beechwood in PA and single males were not allowed. Thankfully I was a part of a gender balanced group. Had I been solo, I would not have been allowed. That was a few years ago and I do not know what the policy is now. I am not an AANR or TNS member. I have been to Valley View Hot Springs, The Well at Brush Creek Hot Springs (both C/O but mostly nude) and Strawberry Park Hot Springs (C/O after dark only.) I've also been to TNS gatherings, Rock Lodge NJ, Sunny Rest PA, Juniper Woods NY, Empire Haven NY, Sunspot PA (now closed) and a few non-landed club gatherings in New England. All were welcoming to me and I experienced no issues. Often I would phone or email before visiting especially when camping was involved. Komodo: I know for a fact that you have been invited to attend Young Naturist events by the organizers of that group. Additionally, I believe members have offered to help you find transportation. You claim nudists are not welcoming to the LBGT community and I can assure you that you are absolutely wrong. You claim the nudist community is ignorant of LGBT issues when in fact it is you who are ignorant since you have never been in a social-nudism situation. I generally don't ask what a person's sexual orientation/identity is. I personally don't care. Straight or Gay, lewd conduct is a no-no, so there should be no issue. Having said that I have met openly gay people at almost every nudist place I have been to. I've never had an issue with them and they've never had an issue with me. | |
| My ex-wife and I belonged to Laguna del Sol, when we split up, I wasn't allowed to renew my membership as a new single male. AANR resorts can kiss my arse. They did nothing to rectify the situation. | |
| A local non-AANR club has single male restrictions on their web site, but the owner says they have no single restrictions. I believe Cypress Cove limits single males who are not AANR members. Members of AANR are welcome there regardless. Lake Como has no discrimination. | |
| Thankfully I have never been turned away but like others have mentioned I try to research places and do not bother with those resorts that could deny me. I visited Gulf Coast Resort in Brooksville FL a few years ago before joining my local club. Even though I was allowed entry, I found the majority of staff and residents to be rude to me at least as a 22yr old single solo male. It was also my first time at an actual resort as an adult and I was visiting someone who lived there. The well known fact that I was visiting someone who was in the LBGT community likely was the reason for the odd treatment. After attending the MidWinter Naturist Festival at Sunsport Gardens I got my TNS membership so I have always presented my TNS card everywhere but at the more privately owned aanr centric resorts it gets the occasional hard looks like its fake or something. Paradise Vally in Dawsonville GA is a perfect example where a female friend and I were attending an event but they inspected my card harder when we said we were not a couple and were paying our own separate grounds fees. Not sure if it would matter if I had an aanr card instead. As much as I think aanr has an unmentioned don't ask, don't tell thing going on, that and other issues seem to be bubbling to the surface and a dialog is finally beginning. Although I have only visited resorts myself in the South East US the rude behavior and vocal disapproval I encounter comes mostly from the snow birds rather than the residents that live in these resorts year round. As far as resorts claiming a gender quota the animosity is projected from those older single/solo males that have been members or residents for eons with this attitude like new s/s males are a threat or throwing off the ratio they themselves are already offsetting. Bare in mind these guys are/would be bigots in other realms like race and creed anyway. I have had good and bad experiences at the places I have returned to and try not to let the occasional BS of a single visit spoil everything for me. Granted the attitudes I'm talking about are part of what has fueled the rise of new young nudist and naturist groups because the old guard does not have a clue. Often annr comes off like a good sams club for private resort business and membership seems more based on 100% club numbers than actually offering an incentive to enjoy nude recreation for those people not able for whatever reason to stay longer than 4 nights in a resort. It could be argued that annr resorts uphold annr standards however not all clubs and resorts play by the same rules and the "standerd" is becoming more assumed without a real way to insure enforcement, specially with language like "family nudism" and and "21 and over" being used at the same time. | |
| Yes, I went to Glen Eden and was turned away (after a two hour drive there to visit). They just said that if I returned as a couple (male/female) I would be welcome. | |
| Always call first for any new place for you. Glen Eden has a 3 visit policy and then you must join. I did have a female friend join for those three visits. Then I joined and visit as a single 95% of the time and have many friends. | |
| By calling before, I've never been denied access. Then it's a matter of attitude. I go alone when travelling w/o my wife and have the opportunity to rest a day or two. I think, outside of a defined policy, if you have the right nudist attitude a single man is welcomed. | |
| Something doesn't sound right Jaybird. Are you married? GE does allow single males to visit and join. They may have some scewed rules and policies about when single males can come for a tour and that rumor has been disputed but my wife and I have seen numerous single males being given tours of the club. Have you tried Olive Dell Nudist Ranch in Colton? They are single friendly. Maybe they are a better bet for you but ... if you're married and you are trying to visit without your wife ... I don't think either club will allow you to do that. I don't agree with that policy ... but it's their policy. ;) | |
| Even though I have been a member of AANR for several years I have been denied access to only one resort, Glen Eden. I was going to be working in the area for a few days and thought a day visit would be a great way to relax, but as a solo married male I could not visit. Now I was told if you live more than 100 miles away you could visit, but they Googled my address and I was only 98 miles from their front gate, so no access. Not a big deal, hoping to visit one day. I am a member of Olive Dell, and also visit Deer park, both allow single/solo males. My wife will only visit Living Waters Spa in Palm Springs. |
