Summer Camp for Kids
| I just read an article in the "N" magazine published by The Naturst Society (31.2 pg.32) where kids were commenting about their experiences at Youth Camp at Sunsport Gardens. As I read, I just kept thinking that by these comments you would never know these kids, both girls and boys together, were all nude during camp. It just sounded like any other youth camp. If textiled parents read this, and then got the punchline that these kids were nude and the camp was led by nudist adults... I wonder what they would say. What do you think about this? | |
| It would be great to have textile parents read what these Nude Campers had to say, have them comment on the kid's writings about camp, ask them if this camp is someplace they would consider sending their kid and then tell them...it was a Nude Camp! Then ask them...would you still send your kid? My wife and I donated thru our non-landed club to sponser kids that wanted to go but their parents had financial hardships. Once I retired...$$$ got tight and we had to cut back but...that may change in the future and we'll get back to donating toward this awesome program. IF...we could go back and have the opportunity to send our two kids to this type of camp...we would have done it in a heart beat. I think it would be beneficial to have our granchildren attend but...their parents would probably not be in favor. I think our oldest grandaughter could use it. She's of that age where her ideas of fashion and body image are scewed by TV, magazines and the computer. I'm not sure how it, nude Youth Camp, works but I really think there should be a separation of boys and girls at different points in camp so the girls and boys can discuss and ask questions they may be embarrassed to discuss in mixed company...then they would get together and discuss what is pertinent for mixed group discussion. ;) | |
| It's a great program for our younsters. They are definitely the future leaders of nudism. I am donating $10 toward the Eastern Region's camp towards a Serendipity youth attending. All funds are appreciated. | |
| Is the article available online? I'd like to post it elsewhere if it is. | |
| I don't know if your experiment will work on this group but...it might! ;) Being as this IS a family nudist group, I hope that those that are members are "pro" kids and nudism. If not...then I'll have to wonder why they are here. I see your beef with AANR. I think it's a valid beef and one that I hope our next President of this org will address, along with a few other issues in regards to working closer together with other naturist orgs. This lifestyle should be about everyone and there shouldn't be an age that is off limits to naturism. WE all want the younger folks to join in but ... the age we want doesn't stop at the 20 somethings ... it should go all the way down to newborns and exposed to this way of life. We have grandchildren and they may be at ages where they are a little uncomfortable with being nude but are ok with being around others that are nude. We get asked, constantly, about a return trip to Club Orient. They are well aware that most everyone there is nude and they still want to return but want to know if the "have" to get naked. When we tell them ... "no, you don't have to get naked," they are even more willing. Once there ... they adapt and decide for themselves how much nudity and when they are comfortable. :) | |
| nudies2: point taken and well said. YOU have my vote. | |
| Actually, the Eastern AANR region did start the youth camps and continue to promote them within our clubs. | |
| Paul LeValley is usually credited with starting nudist youth camps a very long time ago in Florida, and they spread from there. My son has had the great fortune to attend this year's and last year's Naturist Society's Youth Camp at Sunsport Gardens near West Palm Beach in Florida, with 24 children in 2011 and 23 this past July. My husband and I helped out as volunteers with many different activities and food, and camped in the youth camp tenting area together with everyone there. My son was 4 last year and is 5 this year, and was naked all the time. He is enjoying seeing many of the same naked kids again he saw last year, plus new ones. The age range has been 3-15 this year, in three separate age groups with junior youth councillors (the 15-year-olds) also helping. The weather was great, the camp almost empty that time of year in Florida (July 2012), and a nice trip to Haulover nude beach was enjoyed by all during Nude Recreation week. I would love to send my son to an AANR youth camp anywhere (we travel everywhere), but AANR has set the age limit at 11 years and up (why? - at that time, it's getting already late to have fun summer nudist camps before puberty sets in). We are members of both AANR and TNS, and attend a variety of festivals, gatherings and other events over the year all over the US, but are based in southern California with De Anza Springs as our landed home club where we are site holders. Other parents traveling with nudist kids? Please friend/e-mail me to chat and find out where we'll be next. | |
| Work schedules prevented us from being able to go to Sunsport Gardens for youth camp week, but maybe we can go next year (2013). My daughter and son will be 17 and 13 at that time. My son has no problem being nude at resorts, but my daughter never does. I don't know if being in that environment would get her out of her shell, so to speak, or if peers or counselors could help her get over her fears or body issues or whatever it is. She only tells us that she just doesn't want to, never a reason why, "just don't want to" is all. | |
| i saw this as a new post,,,but looks like an old one,,,i donate the entire week fee for one kid,,i never know who it is,,,dont care,,but if at least one kid can go to nude camp that wouldnt have been able to,,i feel good |
