HOT SPRINGS
| Let's hear about your experiences with hot springs. I have been to quite a few resorts/clubs and nude beaches and on a couple of cruises but the one and only hot springs I tried to get to I could not find. When I worked in Boulder City, Nevada about 20 years ago I heard about a hot springs down by the Colorado River. I remember hiking through some desert and into a wash between two canyon walls that lead down to the Colorado River. I saw a Big Horn Mountain Sheep on top of one of the canyon walls and that was a beautiful sight. When I got to the river there was a real pretty and isolated sandy beach with some willow-like foliage that I spent some time at. The hot springs was suppose to be about a mile south from there along the river cliffs. This was about 15 miles south of Hover Dam. I came to an unscalable cliff that was supposed to have a ladder but the ladder was gone so I had to go back. I took the same route back and walked completely naked from the Colorado River all the way until the canyon walls ended at the desert. Along the way a couple was standing on top of the canyon wall and saw me hiking naked happy as you please. I just waved and smiled and kept walking. It was beautiful scenery and a great nude hiking trail. I would like to know about some of you members' experiences with hot springs as they have eluded me so far. | |
| Tommy, I also can't tell you ther location of the hotspring. However, you may wish to inquire about it by contacting the Las Vegas Bares which plans a nude moonlit hike to a hot spring in the area on July 6. Unfortunately because I have to work the next day I won't be able to attend. Seems like a great hike, a moderately difficult six miles round trip. Jim | |
| I read on the Las Vegas Bares site this morning, Tommy, the hot springs are about 4.2 miles from US 93. To reach the best spring it's necessary to climb down a 20 foot ladder. Also, the nearly vertical canyon walls are only about 6-9 feet apart. The spring and pools are located just below Ringbolt Canyon about 1000 feet from the Colorado River. The springs lie within a side canyon. The trail starts in a wash. The one-way elevation loss/gain is about 800 feet. All the above information is actually official description provided by the Lake Mead Nation Recreation Area. Hope this helps. Jim | |
| TommyGunn, nice story but what is the topic that people can respond to. This is more like a journal entry. Please repost and clarify. Thanks! | |
| To SunBunny: If you will read the last sentence SunBunny you will see that I ask members for their experiences with hot springs. | |
| opps, ok, sorry it was just very buried and I guess I got lost in the story. Sometimes titling the topic with a direction like "Hot Springs Experiences" and leading off with the question gets a greater response. Just a thought for the future. Thanks for the post. | |
| To jimshedd112: Thanks for the info. I must have been within a stones throw from ringbolt. | |
| All my hot spring experiences have been at Deep Creek hot springs in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have been going there off and on for more than 20 years. On my first visit to the area I never made it to the springs due to taking a wrong turn and ending up way down stream from the hot springs. It was several years before I had a chance to return and find the springs and I am so glad I did. The hot springs themselves have always been a traditional clothing optional area. It was not until my third visit there, after reading an online account about hiking to the springs nude that I tried it myself. I hiked from the Bowen Ranch parking area to the trailhead wearing shorts. Upon reaching the gate at the beginning of the trail, I removed my shorts and put them in my backpack. I should point out that on my previous visits I had never come across anyone hiking nude. I was a little nervous about how other hikers would react to a nude hiker, but I knew that it was now or never for me to try it myself. I was only on the trail for about two minutes when I met a hiker coming up from the springs. Not only was his reaction positive, we actually stopped and talked for a few minutes about the conditions that day at the springs. This gave me enough confidence to calmly continue on where I passed at least three more people hiking out and again with no negative reactions. On my hike out, not only was I nude on the trail, but I stayed nude until just before getting to the parking lot. I repeated the same thing on my next hike with the same results. It was on this hike that I found a watch on the trail and on my way out turned it into Mike who is the owner of Bowen Ranch. I asked him if he had any problems with people being nude at the ranch. He said as long as no one complained he was fine with it. The normal procedures for people parking at Bowen Ranch is when you get to the entrance, you get out of your car, go over to the box with the envelopes where you fill in your info, put your entrance fee in the envelope and put it through the slot. Prior to talking to Mike, I would drive there nude and put on my shorts when I got out of the car to pay. On my first visit after talking to Mike I stayed nude while paying. At first it was no big deal because when I got there, no one else was around. however just after I got out of the car another car pulled up behind mine with two couples in it. The driver got out and came over to ask if he was at the right place to get to the Hot Springs. It turned out this was their first time there. At no time was the fact that I was totally nude even commented upon. There have been so many other occasions where I have interacted with others either at the ranch on on the trail where I am the only one nude and everyone acts as if it is normal that I have become very comfortable in almost any situation being the only one nude. Since then I will strip nude when I leave the house and not put on anything until I get home again. (Unfortunately at home, nudity is not an option). The one and only problem with Deep Creek is the over two hour drive each way. With the price of gas and my current financial situation, it has been two years since my last trip to the springs. However writing this post has made me realize how much I miss going to the springs so I am going to try and go there next Saturday (7/14/12). Wish me luck that it works out. | |
| J.P., let me wish you luck with your trip to the springs next week. Reading your story of becoming so comfortable with nudity where you're the only one is great. It's very encouraging to read you've received no negative reaction from anyone you've encountered. Maybe people really are mor comfortable with nudity than most of us generally believe. Jim | |
| I visited Deep Creek about 14 years ago and hiked nude the whole time, it was really wonderful! | |
| I'd like to meet a couple of guys from here and hike up to Deep Creek. I know my wife won't want to make that hike but I'd like to. As soon as I'm able to begin hiking again... I'll try and hook up with a group going up there. | |
| They've all been AWESOME! My first was The Well in Colorado. my first visit there was my first solo trip to a C/O place and I didn't know what to expect. While the place was no frills, everyone was great. Soon after that I went to Valley View, also in CO. I used to go there back-in-the-day when it was a members-only place on weekends. So trips there were mid-week ones. I always met great people and totally relaxed. It was about a 3 hour drive for me to get there and the last 45 minutes were always the worst. As soon as I would park, I'd get naked, claim a sleeping spot, and then soak for a few hours. I've even fallen asleep in the pools. Strawberry Park was nice too. I've been there a few times. Didn't care for the fact that it was only C/O after dark (don't know if it still that way) but once we were there in the day, asked the only other people there if they cared if we went nude, they didn't, we asked management and they were ok with it. Soon enough the others went nude too. Made the hike up to Conundrum once. Best hiking trail I've ever been on and worth the 8 mile trip. The story about that trip could be a book. Spence in NM was good. Nice and hot. Access was not the best, nor was parking. Crowds varied on all of my trips there. Manby in NM is sketchy. It's close to the river so it gets flooded. Haven't been there in 10 years so I don't know what the crowd is like now. I've been to most of the springs around Bishop, CA. All of them were good too and again, crowds were mixed. I haven't been out west in a few years. I'm due for a trip. I'd love to hit up some new places and revisit some old haunts as well. | |
| We really enjoy Sierra Hot Springs, and some day hope to travel down the eastern side of the Sierras to sample the multitude of hot springs along Hwy-395. | |
| (I'm surprised there's not a dedicated hot springs group here. But there are other forums dedicated to them, so the hot springs folks already have places to congregate.) I visited Orr Hot Springs with my then wife-to-be. Besides being a lovely resort in a beautiful setting, this was the first social nudity experience I took my wife to. While she didn't jump in with both feet, she did participate and we had a great day lounging in the pools & sauna. The most interesting hot spring I've ever been to is at Rotota Sun Club in New Zealand (http://www.gonatural.co.nz/rotota/index.html). The club is in a very geothermally active area. There is a hillside on the grounds that has steam rising out of it. There is a naturally warm (not hot) creek that runs through the property. They have dug out a pool that functions as the communal hot tub; at night, you can see tiny glow worms along the banks. Below the "hot tub" is a waterfall about 3 meters high - perfect for a natural shower! An amazing, special place. - Jasen. | |
| a natural artesian borehole was created on Peron peninsula to feed stock (sheep) along time ago (back 1940's or before ?) the area is now part of world heritage listed area famous for the dolphin's at monkey mia. I've used this tub a few times and love it has a shower to wash down with and change room downside is clothes have to be worn as its a frequently visited place by locals and tourists alike, last tiem i visited the road in was pretty sandy so I'd recommend 4wd with reduced tyre pressure to suit the conditions. Nearby in a double gee invested lawn from the homestead is a natural spring which acts as the drinking spot for the local emu population |
