I spoke this afternoon with a representative from the Corps of Engineers. I asked him about the river levels and when we might expect the level to normalize. He told me the high water isn't from excessive mountain snow melt, but from the dams releasing more water to accommodate salmonids heading to the ocean. We can expect higher than normal river levels until the end of August.

Sadly, this means the beach at Rooster, especially Sand Island, won't be accessible for a while yet.

I visited Collins Beach last weekend, and there was enough beach exposed for the crowd.

Sounds like the river is FINALLY low enough to enjoy Rooster Rock...and wade out to Sand Island.

There is a tree planting event at Rooster Rock on Saturday, April 20 at 9:00 a.m. We do need volunteers. No parking charge for helpers. E-mail GAT@aanr-nw.org for details.
