Why must it (social/recreational nudity) be confined to a backyard, remote trail, beach, or resort? Why can we not adopt the Scandinavian attitude in the USA?

(This question was asked by member New_Adventurer in response to another topic. It is a good question to ask and get your thoughts on as a separate subject/topic so I am posting here for your input and thoughts. Thank you New_Adventurer for the idea.)

It seems simple enough. We visited Denmark several years ago. I, of course, researched nude beaches so we could enjoy a few days of sunning our butts while in this country.

ALL ... ALL but two beaches in Denmark are clothing optional! Kilometers after Kilometers of beach front and only two beaches where they require you to be covered.

In those advisories ... they even mentioned that on those clothing mandatory beaches, if you ventured far enough away from the populated areas ... you could enjoy topless and nude sunbathing and swimming. What a concept!

It's difficult enough to get this puritan society to accept us behind fences, gates and in our own backyards and I don't think it helps when we have an org that finds it necessary to preach ... "appropriate" locations.

We should be able to share common areas without textiles getting their panties in a bunch over simple nudity but ... I think in fareness to the textile society ... we have some so called "nudists" that are in this for more of the shock and sexual aspects, than for the right reasons.

I wish I had the right answer ... I just don't understand why we are so uptight about simple nudity and other countries are so open and mature about it.

Ask Stephen Gough whether nudity should ever be confined or restricted, and his answer probably would be a resounding: "NEVER!!!!!"

Stephen Gough hs just been released after 21 months...of confinment.

"Pushing the envelope" is a reoccurring topic in nudism. How far off the beaten path should one venture...nude? Without risking one's freedom?

I too wish we could be a little more like Europe. In France, in many areas, you can make your own nude beach. Just find an area that's not too busy and nudity is tolerated; and you're good to go. In Germany you can just climb up to your apartment rooftop to sunbathe nude. Or just drive to a lake and pick a spot where nudity is tolerated.

Whe are light years behind that kind of nudity-acceptance.

This topic hits home with me as my gf is handicapped and cant reach a lot of "legal" nude beaches. She says why cant we just go nude at the "edge" of a textile beach or park but that would endanger me also as I would have to defend her.We need to be more like Denmark in this country, afterall, the USA is supposed to be the light of freedom in this world.

England managed to boot the Puritans out of England, and unfortunately they had the more successful of the settlements from which this country grew. Time to do it again I think. How about shipping them to North Korea? Then maybe we could go about nudity is a rational manner.
Well, it was a simple question. Maybe we should ask it with a different slant, why does "that organization" advocate appropriate places with the implication that such places are paid venues, whose owners appear to be in control of "that organization" and its public posture?

If my neighbor looks over my fence into my yard and sees me, am I at fault and risk for showing or is he (or she) at fault and risk for peeping?

A person can be naked in San Francisco and be totally safe and legal and be arrested next door in South San Francisco, Colma, or Daley City. Why? Why this absurdity and fear of flesh?

I too believe the United States is too hung up on the idea of simple nudity. I've written many time before of my desire to see society accept the right of people to go clothed or nude, as they choose, anytime and anywhere. Why should nudity be restricted to only recreational pursuits and why must we go nude only in "appropriate" locations, away from everyone else, behind fences, walls, or deep in the woods so others will not be offended.

If my neighbors look over the fence and find me nude in my own backyard they have invaded my privacy and, therefore, have the choice to either join me or avoid looking over the wall in the future so as not to see me nude. I won't go into their yard or home nude unless invited to do so.

hojo, I totally agree with you and your GF. My wife is also disabled and gets progressively worse. Our first year in California had us going to Pirate's Cove, a nude beach here. We loved it but she will probably never go again. She almost died going back to the car. Even the beaches without the steep climb are far enough away from parking the car as to prevent her from attending them. She does have an electric scooter but it would not be practical around soft sand and water. I have found that there are beach wheelchairs and scooters available but they are WAY expensive to purchase.

Of all the nude beaches I've been to, and the many more I've researched, Baker Beach in SF is the easiest to physically get in and out of. The parking lot is almost level with the beach. A beach wheelchair would be necessary for the quarter to half mile walk to the nude end of the beach (depending if you park in the north or south parking lot).
