I recently stopped by River City Tattoo in Sacramento to have a guiche re-done. (It's a long story).
It seems, every tattoo place I stop by, also does piercing. However, not all piercing shops do tattoos. What is the relationship, if there is one? Would you go to a shop that just one or the other but not both? Are you more comfortable in one or the other?
I, have one lady whom does all of my tattoos. She is a good friend and pretty well known. We have talked, over numerous bottles of Crown Royal, and we both agreed that she can do my tattoos but she could/would never do any piercings on me.
The piercings I have all come from my travels. I have one from a famous shop in San Francisco (the first shop in the US). I also have one from a person whom wrote "THE Book" on the subject, while I was traveling in South America.
So as you can see, I tend to lean toward the group that "specialize" in an area. What are your thoughts?

I have tatts on a lot of my body. Both arms (not sleeved) both thighs, and my back. I haven't got into piercings at all. I would say, though, that a shop that does both would most likely have artists and piercers that are competent and safe. More tatts? Yes. Piercings? don't think so.

My daughter wants to get her ears pierced and I will definitely be taking her to a piercing shop and not the one in the mall. I think its probably safer to go to a business that is inspected by the health department that autoclaves their equipment and not just wipe it down with alcohol wipes. I think the relationship between tattoo shops and piercing is just that they're both popular and many people have both so it's a good business decision to do piercings as well. Not really sure though, just a thought. :)

Good thinking Karen. I've talked to people whom all say that if the people in the mall use a "piecing gun" it's a bad thing. I guess the guns are difficult to keep clean.
I have done " A LOT" of research on piercings. I've had mine done by some of the "best" but only after talking with them BEFORE we decide to do anything. Good luck...
