Do you consider the practice of social nudity (nudism) a hobby?

In a recent post on another topic a group member said "I have too many expensive hobbies already. I'm not making nudism another one." which has lead me to post this topic. So my curiosity has been raised, tell us what you think about this? (Don't be shy on this one...go for it!)
If you were to ask my wife(non nudist)she might say that I'm obcessed with being nude.I have asked here severial times to try it with me but to no avail.
Starting to womder myself am I obcessed?I am nude when ever I can be ie:home when kids are sleeping or gone, driving. I would love to be able to go to full tan sun club but money is tight.

I have some restrictions on when I can be naked as well. However, I have never considered being a nudist a hobby. I consider it a lifestyle that I choose to embrace and enjoy, either at home when I can, or at the local clothing optional resort. My preference is the resort, where I can relax and socialize with those who feel the same about nudism.

The dictionary definition of a hobby is: an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation.

The problem with this definition is that it doesn't leave room for something to be a lifestyle choice. It assumes that if you aren't making money at it, its a diversion that only occupies some of your time.

For some, I suppose it is a "hobby" they pursue on an occasional basis for "pleasure or relaxation". For me, it's a way of living. Its about having put clothes in proper perspective regarding their usefulness. Its about looking for reasons to be dressed instead of excuses to be undressed.

There isn't much hobby time in my nudism. I clean house nude. I wash dishes nude. I cook nude. I answer the mail and pay bills nude. I wash the dog nude. I garden nude. I read and watch TV nude (oh...wait...there's some "hobby" time...).

I live my life as nude as possible. It isn't my "occupation". But it isn't my "hobby" either.

For me nudism is definitely NOT a hobby. I too have restrictions but am very happily nude every possible second and would love to go nude 24/7, 365.

It seems that the person that sparked your interest and reason for posting this new topic felt that "Nudism/Social Nudism" meant going to resorts. Granted that can get expensive. If he/she/they aren't nude at home much, participate in nudist activities ONLY at resorts or clubs ... then, yes, nudism for them is a "hobby" or they'd consider it a "hobby."

It would be nice to know in what context he uses "nudism/social nudism." For he/she/them, is it soley in the "resort" setting? Is it ONLY in places that cost money to enter?

I think for many of us, in this group, nudism is a way of life and in life we relax, socialize and recreate ... and being nude while we do these things and most everything else in our everyday lifes, it would be incorrect, for many of us, to call it a "hobby."

;)

My point was not to debate how the group member used the term "hobby" but rather the mindset of hobbyism that was applied to the act of social nudity. I have never viewed social nudity as a hobby since for me it is a way of living and preferred lifestyle as is boating. Some would call boating a hobby, I don't, it is a preferred lifestyle for me. Hence the topic question. My curiosity was raised by applying the term hobby to social nudity which I never thought of before and so I was interested in hearing how others viewed it in their realms of existence, that's all. As for me, I see it social nudity is a good thing no matter what you call it.

I guess it depends on how (and perhaps what) you define as a "hobby". I participate in nudism for pleasure and relaxation, so according to the dictionary, yes, it's a hobby.

For others, it's a lifestyle, which may have started out as a hobby. I, unfortunately, don't have the luxury of living clothes free, 24/7/365. Since I do it when I can, I suppose I could be considered a "hobbyist".

To each, his own, as the saying goes.

Personally, I don't care if someone thinks of me as a hobby nudist. It's what I think of myself as, that matters.

Simply put, I am a nudist.

"Hobbyism"... a hobby to me is golf, woodworking, classic car restoration. Golf is the most "social" of the three but the other two "could" involve some socialization.

Being naked and socializing isn't a hobby, it's a way of life, as I stated in my earlier post, for many of us ... Absolute Naturists. If many of us do indeed live as much as possible as nudists, visit nude resorts and clubs on a regular basis and have nudist friends visit from time to time ... there will be socializing and that's just a part of life ... it's not a hobby.

Nude socializing or clothed socializing ... does it make a difference? ... and clothed socializing certainly isn't a hobby ... so why would nude socializing be? Even if someone is a "hobby nudist" ... is socializing in the nude really a hobby? Socializing is just a way of life whether your nude or clothed.

I don't think of nudism as a hobby. For me it is just way of being, a way of living. I can participate in hobbies, like gardening, swimming, volleyball, surfing, etc. while nude. But, nudism itself is not the hobby.

to me nudism is not a hobby but a lifestyle. You can practice your hobby naked if you can, but before all I am a nudist because it just feels good.

I consider it more a lifestyle than a hobby. I would be nude 24/7 if that were possible.

Absolutely not! In my opinion, equating nudism as a hobby is like saying living is a hobby.

Nudism is definitely not a hobby for me. It is truly a way of living: nude when possible and clothed when practical. I happen to be a nudist as I live my life.

Playing my piano and fixing and tinkering with computers are my hobbies. I can ad to them or drop them as I see fit. Nudism is a part of me and makes me what I am.

Naturism, just like being honest, patriotic, and respectful of other people, is a part of my personality. It is not something that I chose to do. Rather, it is something that is inside me.

Living nude is what I am. Riding motorcycles is what I do. Finding new breweries and pubs is my hobby.

In short: No, it is not a hobby for me.

Duh? never thought about this one.
Let's see now. When I go snorkling or diving, I consider that a hobby, but don't consider the fact that I am nude at that moment as a hobby. I go to the nude beach and like to swim, just feels comfortable being nude, to hot here. Gardening is a hobby, being naked while gardening is just comfortable.
Oh I know! Wearing cloths must also be a hobby.

aside for gas for the car to get to the beach it is not too expensive to go nude here, cheapest non- hobby I got.
For me it is a fundamental belief system and not a hobby. I think it goes beyond just a way of life when you encounter violent opposition to the human body from textiles with such a vastly different perspective claiming it is shameful, disgusting, offensive and obscene. I and other nudists think it is normal to be nude and unnatural to be clothed. Very different belief systems.

Rollercoaster ...

Do you feel that some here in this group think differently than you do?

I feel the same as Rollercoaster, but I am aware that there are others who do indeed take naturism as nothing more than a hobby, such as those who only go nude on holiday trips, and I'm ok with that. But for me, it is a life philosophy.

There's no doubt there are "hobby nudists," hell, our daughter's are back from the non nudist ranks to "hobby nudists."

But ... for those professing to be "Absolute Naturists" could there be an Absolute Naturist that is a hobby nudist?

I don't consider social nudity as a hobby. I think of it more as my religion and I should have religious freedom to practice my faith. I believe in being nude in nature as my way to worship my spirituality. Why should my beliefs be considered anything else other than a religion? Instead of worshiping a particular god in some building, I worship mother nature in nature itself (the world's biggest church).

I’m tempted to say nudity is absolutely a hobby just to stir things up, but I just can’t do it. To me it is simply just another wardrobe choice.

Absolutely not a hobby. Being a nudist is part of who I am. I could practically even say its not even a choice - my body simply feels better nude and it helps to be accepted as I am instead of for what I wear.

Lifestyle, not merely hobby. Would a textilist consider the wearing of clothes - even to the point of avoiding a convenient nudist resort or beach - to be a hobby?

It doesn't cost me money to be naked. I even work as a painter naked when the customers allow.

Yes, going to nudist resorts costs money, so I don't go often but going to resorts is not my hobby anyway - it is merely a way to further enjoy my passion without having to worry about getting arrested. If there were a public c/o beach nearby, I'd go to that regularly. Going to the beach and swimming and picnicing and kayaking might be my hobby, but doing it naked is my passion.

To me, a hobby is something I do simply because it's fun or challenges my mind (such as crossword puzzles). Nudism is something that both of us do because it is the way we are most comfortable. Whenever possible and practical I can guarantee that both of us are buck naked.

Speaking for myself, I am more at ease socially while with fellow nudists. Not a hobby by the way I define a hobby.

hell no its a way of life. to me a hobby is something that usually takes up spare time and costs you money to enjoy doing it. But i do have a motto if its got 4 wheels 4 legs or wears a bra its bound to cost you money - so yes my hobby is a 4wd and rallying both expensive hobbies

Nudism/naturism to me is a belief or philosophy, a set of values I hold that affect the way I act. The core of that belief is that undressed is an acceptable state of dress. The whys and wherefores of that central tenet vary from person to person, and are the subject of long discussions.

Now my PRACTICE of nudism - what I do that expresses and proves out that belief - trends toward being a hobby. I get to nude beaches occasionally. I don't cover up around my child when going to or from the shower or when changing clothes, but we wear clothes in our house.
