The DORK Look of Self-Portraits
| Is there a technique or method that you have used to not look like a DORK in your self-portraits? Another member mentioned this in a post that in many of his self-portraits he comes out looking like a dork. I use a few tricks with body placements that seem to work. You can see them in my "Me and My Kitty" and "On the Rocks" photos. I'll let you figure them out. | |
| 1. Practice makes perfect -- practice your post in front of a mirror before setting up your camera. 2. Use simple camera tricks -- positioning the camera differently can compress (top down shot) or elongate (bottom up shot) your silhouette. 3. If you are doing self portraits, place a big mirror behind your camera and use remote instead of self timer. Compose yourself, take your time, relax and find that perfect moment before clicking the shutter. 4. If all fails, switch your camera to video mode and just start posing continuously. Review the movie for a good shot and extract that frame from PC. | |
| I prefer to be behind the lens than in front of it self portraiture isn't my scene or liking I feel to awkward when having a photo being taken period. But love taking photos of motor-sports landscapes and nature. guess biggest issue I have is I am tall and any photo looks out of perspective so any tips for future appreciated | |
| Taking photos of my kids as they grew up taught me that taking loads of shots will get you more great photos than waiting for the perfect shot to appear ever will. That being said, I agree with Nudist_HK about the use of video to get a good self portrait shot. I like candid photos better than posed shots just because most people instantly become self-conscious when posing for a picture, even if they are doing a self portrait. | |
| I have used self-portrait a couple of times... I find it best to take 10 consecutive shots via the timer and chose the best one... it's great for taking action shots! |
