[sic] I am a lifelong democrat and thought about joining the conservative nudists, just to have some fun. On the other hand don't want to cause problems or have enemies. I just wonder if they will feel as strongly when they see the number of laws passed or proposed on the local level that are anti nude, nudist? Everyone favors something until it affects them. Don't know the poem in full..they came for the (insert group) but I was not a () so I didn't say anything. Then they came for me and no one was left to speak for me. |
The preceding is a post on another NCH group in which the author thought his infiltration into Conservative Naturists would result in unrest — lest driven by malice — along with his attempt to stain one political philosophy with culpability for anti-nude restrictions. Quite a sad declaration.
Perhaps our liberal friend has yet to read about the rules effecting freedom on the American River or at San Onofre in California. Maybe he is naïve about the fight for a nude beach near Key West, Florida. Perchance he overlooked or has not heard of the nudity regulation enacted in Boulder, Colorado. It’s possible he turned away from Washington House Bill 1333 (2005) by State Rep. Al O’Brien [D]. These locals can hardly be classified as bastions of conservatism.
A little research would have revealed that introductions of anti-nudity bills are almost evenly split between Democrat and Republican legislators. The proposals usually target strip clubs or other carnal businesses but, since they contain vague or poorly written language, wholesome nudist activities and organizations get hit with negative secondary effects. The AANR and TNS both have legal councils which continuously comb pending legislation to affectively defend nudists from these unwarranted laws.
Conservative naturists would welcome our proud liberal friend as we would any fellow nudist seeking the truth. The left has cultivated amongst its followers a dark misconception that simple disagreement defines their enemies. Open, spirited debate is a cornerstone of the American experience. There is no room for Alinsky-style tactics such as was pondered.
As posted in November 2010, Conservative or liberal, we ALL make our contributions to nudism and both viewpoints are necessary for us to be successful. If our community was polarized liberally, it would draw the nakedists and those far too [progressive] to be able to distinguish acceptable levels of decorum; too conservative and younger people will be turned away by the conformity, further aging the demographics. We need input from those who keep the nudist movement in line and focused, and those who bring new ideas and directions.
Our choice to be nude is constantly under the scrutiny of outsiders, from the left and right; our ability to shed our clothes without shedding our principles makes us nudists. If not, we are just naked apes.
When the Nazis came for the Communists, I remained silent; I was not a Communist.
When they locked up the Social Democrats, I remained silent; I was not a Social Democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews, I remained silent; I wasn’t a Jew.
When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.—Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) |
