| Hello.I just joined this group. In the last month I have been going to the gym.Trying to get the body into some sort of condition again after having/and still have ,but not as bad,a medical condition for the past 10 years.I am doing one day,Cardio, next day weights. One of the problems i am facing is trying to get enough energy while at the gym. If i can ask, has anyone got any ideas what is good to take/have, to increase my energy,Keeping in mind I am I very strict Vegan(I do not consume or use animal probucts)If anyone has any advice I would be most greatful for for help.Thank you. Regards Andrew. | |
| Hello Andrew, and welcome. So does that mean you don't consume dairy? If not, then IMO your choices seem limited. There are soy and hemp based protein powders, though soy has taken on a recent rap that it inhibits testosterone production. Nuts and seeds are good sources of protein and fats, and some are lower in carbs than others. Eat relatively small meals and more often (4-6x day), helps keep the blood sugar up with a steady flow of nutrients. What sort of intensity goes into your cardio and anaerobic training? Are you allowing enough recovery? Keep us informed. Not sure of what your medical condition is so hoping this can work with what you're dealing with. Others feel free to chime in as I'm no expert with this. | |
| Hello Ironwarrior.Thank you for your reply. No I do not consume dairy.I do one day of cardio for one hour,The next day I do one hour of weights.I am trying to do that six days a week.I am taking it easy, but at this stage it is still enough for me.I did go out and buy some Tony Sfeir's Designer Physique Rice Protein Isolate powder, and some Waxy Maize powder. Are they going to do me any good in your opinion to help give me some energy?Thank you for your Help. Regards Andrew. | |
| Sure the supplements you mention should help, but I have a question. Are you allowing adequate recovery time between workouts? I don't know what your training intensity level is but if you're going at it pretty hard 6 days a week, your body may not be 'repairing' the tissue you're breaking down. For me, I would try a 4 day a week regimen, just to see if the body responds more favorably. | |
| Ironwarrior,Thank you for your advise, Regards Andrew. | |
| Hello all, I am new to this group. I have heard a lot of press about suppliments such as Athletic Greens and other raw food suppliments... has anyone on here tried raw food suppliments and what is your opinion? Thanks, Ron31401 | |
| Hi Ron, thanx for posting. As far as your question goes, I do (about 2-4x per week) throw some 'greens' powder (specificaly GREEN SUPERFOOD by Amazing Grass) into my post-workout shake, and it does seem to help with recovery. It may or may not be a placebo effect but even that's OK if that's all it is, IMO. | |
| Thanks Iron Warrior, I am using GREEN SUPERFOOD by Amazing Grass)right now. I have used Green Vibrance as well. |
