What role do pets play in your life? Many of us have pets so if you do tell us how they are involved with your life. Thanks.

Not much anymore. I've ALWAYS had pets and my wife hadn't until we were married. A dog; that didn't go well. Then a rabbit; that ended badly when we got so attached and then it died the night before we left for a houseboat trip. I was up til 2am diggin' a whole and have a burial ceremony.

THEN ... a cat. Our daughter's cat that wasn't welcome in the roommates apartment. He came for a long weekend around Thanksgiving and never left. 13 years later, on Christmas Eve, we were in the Vet Emergency room. After emergency surgery and NO guarantee that he would make it more than a couple of months ... we had him put to sleep.

Not a good Christmas that year!

WE are done with pets. We are on the go so much and it's not fair to pets that we'd own to be left alone or in the care of others. I love pets, my wife has grown to love pets but ... it's best we don't have anymore.

They played the pet role in our life. We were attached but we didn't dress them, we didn't treat them as our kids or grandkids. We didn't cart them around with us in travel bags. They were meant to not only be a companion for our kids but to teach them responsibility. It helped but when the rabbit and cat died ... it was too difficult to think about doing it all over again.

Huge role! Between us my wife and I have four dogs and two cats. Her two dogs are small housedogs while my two are hunting breeds that sleep beside the bed. I had pretty much decided when I got my GSP pup three years ago that she would be my last. Now, the old Lab is getting really long in the tooth and we are planning to have the GSP bred in the spring so will probably keep one of her pups. I really can't imagine hunting birds without a dog to share the day with. Even the little dogs bring some measure of joy to our lives.

My only remaining pet is my black cat Bear. I love him dearly but he is a PITA when I have to travel.
You can't find persons to pet sit at your home! Boarding a cat in a cage just doesn't make it in my world.

I have a 5 year old springer spaniel, Mike.

Good companion and was good company as a pup for my father before he passed. Keeps me going, makes sure I get exercise and is extremely bright.

When I start looking for a new place to live soon,
I will look for places where he can run and play unrestrained.

We have a 9 year old mini schnauzer/doxy mix. He is a member of the family. He loves to cuddle and chase soap bubbles. He never seems to run out of energy chasing those silly bubbles. He is great companionship for us.

We have a Whippet Border Collie mix.
Our son wanted a dog and we found a litter of pups that were being given away, my son picked out this one and we took him home, took him to the vet to be checked out and all shots, all in good health and condition.
I wasnt as excited to get a dog but we got him and have had him about 10 yrs now.
I ended up getting very close to him while I was recovering from knee surgery and he has become my little buddy!! He still gets so excited when we throw a ball, he LOVES tennis balls!!! When he was very young I got a can of tennis balls and he would chase all 3 of them around at the same time, kind of like juggling them. He still does this even being a 10 year old dog. He is still very active and loves to run!!
He is an outdoor dog now, but comes into the laundry room at times where I have a space set up for him when he doesnt want to be outside.
I have a pix of him in my photos....

We have a kitty, he is in one of my pics. He is part of the family and travels with us everywhere. He is a good little traveler. He is also the entertainment comittee on our boat, yep he loves the boat. He was a rescue cat, about 4 months old when I adopted him, but from the moment he and I first met we were pals and have been through any escapeds since then.
I am a cat person. I have had only one dog, a mix chihuahua when I was very young and I loved her very much. I think pets are good for a person.
After we lost our tabby MoCat, we thought we would never be able to replace him. He had been a member of our family for 14 years and had adopted us in the back yard of our former house. He was a wise ginger feline with lots of charm, cunning and cuddles, all on his terms of course.

We fostered several cats over a year or two, but let them go to their forever homes. Two years ago we found sisters Cara and Charlie Girl at our local shelter. They had a very rough past: victims of abuse ranging from being shot at to being given antifreeze. We took Cara home first, since Charlie Girl was still mothering her kittens. A month later the sisters were reunited and we've been one happy family since then. Both are quasi lap cats and have never had their nails clipped. I have to be very careful NOT to get scratched when sitting in my computer or recliner. It's not the gentle entrance either of them make when landing in my lap, but the sudden, sometimes nervous exit. Often there are "imprints" on my naked legs, stomach or feet. All is forgiven though. It's part of the love the give us in the strange and subtle ways they show it. Meows and purrs to all of you who own one or more of these fascinating felines. :-)) Namaste.......
