We enjoy touring on the '91 GoldWing pulling a Kwikkamp tent trailer.

In April/09 we will be bringing home a survivor '63 Pontiac Grand Prix.

What 'toys' do you have?

I've always been interested in tractor old trucks old cars etc. I joined an antique tractor club in 2007.

Kevin, sounds like that guy could have used some lock-tite.

The only thing that makes me a gear head is that I do all of my vehicle repairs myself.

My car is a 1975 Monte Carlo... it's a total sleeper. Nothing noticable on the outside except when you hear the lope of the engine at idle. It has a 383 Stroker producing 450 ft.lbs. torque/430 H.P. and 6 speed "semi-automatic" (two transmissions accomplish this feat). This setup moves that 4,200 lbs. car from 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds.

I'm currently restoring a 67 Chevelle 300 Sedan. I wish it were a Malibu or SS but...it's fun just the same.

It is show ready but not Car Show Trophy ready.

I am NOT a gear head. I don't know much about fixin' cars and quite honestly...if there's a problem that isn't simple...it goes to a real mechanic! LOL

I don't know what some are talking about when they talk size of cams, rear ends, trans sizes and types, heads... I'm not completely vehicle engine, drive train illiterate but some of that talk just goes 3' right over my head! LOL

I joined this group to maybe get some insight from true gear heads what some of my problems might be if and when I run into them.

Glad to be a part of this group...and by the way...I have driven my 67 Chevelle to my club naked and back home again! While on the freeway...got lots of thumbs up on the car...little did they know I was naked! LMAO

I'm a "gearhead" because I grew up in the 50's & 60's, a time when you knew every car make, model, and year with just one look. When new cars came out in September, and the dealer windows had brown paper on them until the introduction day. A time when you could look under the hood and identify the alternator, the distributor, carb, etc..... now, it's a jumble of wires and modules, and in my CTS it's completely clad in plastic covering. You can't even see the engine! Some of my favorite project cars have been my '64 Cadillac SDV, my '73 Mazda RX-2 rotary engined coupe, and my '79 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II (my wife called it my mistress, but a human mistress would have been cheaper!). I still drive my late wife's wedding gift, an '86 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce which is lipstick red and looks like the day I bought it for her brand new. My daily driver is an '09 Cadillac CTS Premium Edition Sedan in black. I have owned 8 Cadillacs, and all but two have been black. I guess this all makes me a "gearhead", and a naked one at that! Cheers!

Hi, I'm Betsy. I love cars, and my baby is a 95 BMW 540i. She needs some overhaul, which I am fully prepared to invest in. I love European cars, especially fast ones! My plan is to become a mechanic through one of the local schools here in Orlando. They have some really great programs and scholarships that I'm looking into. I would say I'm very excited about the development of the BMW i8. Bugatti Veyron 16.4's are AMAZING, the Ferrai F12berlinetta is sweet.... and these are a few of my favorite things!

Hi Betsy!

I love to see women work on cars. I've watched the show All Girls Garage and my favorite show is Overhaulin'. Besides Chip Foose and his incredible designs ... I really love to see Cheri (only female mechanic on the show) get in there and work. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and she nice looking too! LOL

Glad to hear you're interested in cars as well though we have different tastes. I'm a muscle car lover. Since my last post, I'v entered my Chevelle in a few shows and my most proudest moment was winning Best in Class for Muscle Car at the Glen Eden Nude Attitude Car Show where I was the only one that went up and received my plaque in the nude!!!

That was fun but this year's show was even better. I didn't win but there were far more nudes mingling with the textiles at the show. Last year, when I won, a bit more cars, less nude people, this year ... a few less cars LOTS more nudes and that's what makes a Nude Car Show great.

I've learned more and more about my car and it's operation but still don't consider myself a gearhead. I know what the component parts are, how they operate, how to replace them but I probably couldn't tune a car or set the timing, by myself, know what the best rear end is to put in my car, anything about cams except how they work ... so I do know a bit more about cars than some but still don't consider myself a gear head cuz I don't live and breath cars ... but I admire those that do and especially woman who love cars as much as you do!

Take care, thanks for joining the group!

Thanks for the warm welcome, FireProf. There are also quite a few American cars that catch my eye, besides the foreign markets. I love the '67 Chevrolet Impala, that is featured in the show 'Supernatural'. When I was young, one of my older brothers had a '57 chevy (pink and white) which was to die for. The other brother had a Boss Bug kit car back in the 80's. I love cars!

In actuality ... I'm a MOPAR guy. My favorite muscle car is the '68 Dodge Charger. Tough to find one that isn't a bucket of rust or already refurbished and they want an arm and leg for the bucket of rust! LOL

Funny thing is ... I've always owned Chevy's but love Dodge's. Go figure!

We had a friend that had the only car big enough to carry all of us to school and back ... her parents handed her down a 66 Impala. Scared the hell outta us. She always had to pump the brakes to get the car to stop! LOL
What makes me a gear head? I've been turning bolts since I was 12, repairing my own bicycles and mini-bikes, then motorcycles and my parents' cars before I had a car of my own. I have built several street performance engines and my latest engine project is a 600 cubic inch stroker motor for my jet boat built entirely from aftermarket racing parts. I have never been a professional mechanic, but I did get some training in diesel mechanics while in high school. Mostly I was just to cheap (and poor) to pay a mechanic to work on my toys and vehicles, now I just don't trust anyone else to do the work to suit me. Once a gear head, always a gear head!
For me it is all the tickets I got when I was young. Al the drag racing and being chased by the cops. Also it was 7 Trans Am's, 4 Camaros, 2 Mustangs, a 69 Charger I have had. Also I think about restoring another project.

I guess I identify more with the term "Petrolhead," since all of my mechanical loves tend to be British. My first car was a 1975 MGB that I bought brand new from White's Imports in Mobile, AL. I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS at the time. I still have that car. Not too many people can claim to be the original owner of their MG! It's been across country three times, and got me started in autocrossing back in the early 80's. Did all the mods myself, rebuilt the engine myself at 100K miles, and had it balanced while it was out.

I've also had a 1969 MGC and a 1968 MGC-GT. Wish I'd kept those and sold the ex.

My daily driver and autocross car now, is a 2006 Mini Cooper S-JCW.

I'm lucky enough to be married to a wonderful woman who is also a petrolhead, loves autocrossing and F1, and when we have a garage to restore the MGB, she'll be helping me.
