The personal grooming and "decoration" rules of etiquette for nudists are nearly the same as everywhere else in society. Some clubs and resorts may have minor guidelines on the "appropriateness" of some types of piercings, but this generally involves extreme multiple piercings and exotic adornments.

If you are comfortable with multiple piercing in the genital region of your body and they have COMPLETELY healed, and will not take offense to the occasional question about such things, carry on as normal. There seem to be a great number of people with more "skin art" (which both my wife and I possess) as well as Tribal-inspired piercings and ear hoops. Personally I do not find any sort of bodily additions or modifications to be surprising, and more often it is the fundamental physical diversity of our bodies to get noticed.

My wife has made some amusing observations of our fellow nudists during her first year in the lifestyle, but all of these were good natured and amusing (at least to me).

People who normally find themselves to be a little introverted or shy will find beginning conversations with nudists somewhat easier. This is because you do not have to guess about the "real" person's attitudes towards things like personal grooming, tattooing or piercing. As in the textile world of work and office life where some people prefer to keep their adornments discreetly out of view or in-line with office dress standards, all things I admit are situationally appropriate. In the nudist environment this "reserved" or discreet behavior is nearly impossible, so if you DO wax, pluck or pierce yourself then going nude means showing off even more of the "TRUE YOU!".

In time people may even notice an improved ability to notice other Players "tells" at the poker table, the blushing of someone that IS familiar with something you mentioned, or the subtle upturning at the corners of a new friends mouth when happy stories are shared or common behaviors discussed.

Be yourself, relax and enjoy life! My 2008 motto includes nudism as a privilege over and above the ordinary pressures of the "daily grind" and I hope you (dear reader) will get many opportunities to experience this yourself and appreciate it fully!

Best wishes,
~ Dennis in Virginia

I have both piercings & ink myself and have
notice that naturists tend to decorate their
bodies at higher rate than the general public.
I'm not sure why but I think it's cool. It would
probably take alot for me to consider any body
adornment over the top.

I personally cannot imagine ever getting a tattoo or a piercing. I do not like to shaved but I do trim it up.

I've never considered getting a piercing or a tattoo for myself. I have, at various times, shaved my pubic hair but it never lasted long due the time and effort involved in maintaining the look. I do trim my pubic and chest hair occasionally.

I don't much care for chest hair or pubic hair . i keep it all shaved . its quite simply easiest to keep it clean than let it grow out any . less of a hastle and takes a lot less time .

I've got a PA, that I don't always wear, especially if it's my first time to a club, and I'm not sure what the cultural reaction to it might be for that particular place. I've thought about tatoos alot, but have never been able to settle on anything. I gues that means I'm just not suited for the perminancy of tatoos. I usually trim. Shaving is just a hasle and ends up being uncomfortable.

HAIR WE GO …

We sit in our lair … And with you we share
That our nude friends haven’t a care … If we shave down there.

We know they are aware … That we’re smooth and bare.
It’s not so rare … And it’s really no scare.

So we sit on a chair … Trying to look debonair
As our towels each have a tear … About three inches square.

Oh, some people may stare … At the lack of our hair
But if they give us the glare … We’ll show ’em derrière!

We make no hot air … But we tell you, “Beware.”
Whether razor or Nair … You won’t look like a bear.

Like Rogers and Astaire … Yes, we’re quite a pair
When we stop at the fair … And eat an éclair.

So go on a whim or a dare … But will your nude mates despair?
As Napoléon would declare … «Au contraire mon frère!»

It's all about "seeing and being seen" LOL.
I have always been naturally hairy but since becoming a nudist I've started shaving my body hair. I love the shaved look and consider myself a permanent "Smooth Nudist" or "Smoothie."
As for body piercing or tattoos - I dont' have or desire to have any, but I don't mind seeing them on others. My wife made a removable, colored bead ring that I wear behind the head of my penis; I'm sure this does draw attention to that area, but so far I haven't received any comments.

I was curious what many resorts feel about non-piercing body adornments? I personally do not use any, but I have always been curious about how resorts and the like handle such... (like jewelry that would be placed on or around the genitals, breasts, maybe worn around the neck or waist, etc...)

It seems contrary to the non-sexual orientation of the experience, but I suppose it is ones right o express themselves by adorning their body however they like...

Are there often any strict rules about such things at resorts? What about tattoos and piercings? I am very unfamiliar with the actual etiquette surrounding naturalist/nudist resorts...

Ashrubel, I think you mean naturist rather than naturalist resorts as a naturalist is one who studies plants and animals. You're not the first to make that mistake, and you probably won't be the last.

Piercings like tattoos and shaving are personal choices and have nothing to do with nudism.

Many clubs used to not allow genital piercings but that has lightened up a bit as long as it's not overdone. I've never heard of a nudist park reject a visitor because of a tattoo.

IMHO anything that draws attention to the genitalia is not nudist. I am definitely a vanilla nudist.

I see where I said that now... I use Opera Browser, and it has a built-in Word Processor to check what you tpe, like in forums or on facebook...

It underlined "Naturiast" when I hit the "A" key with "S" key on accident... so I right clicked to change it, and the first option it gives is "Naturalist", not "Naturist"...

I honestly did know the difference, and feel like a fool for accidentally clicking the wrong one (which, since I have been here for some reason, the two have swapped positions, with Naturist being the first...)

Yeah, that was one of the first things I learned about Nudist/Naturism:
Charles Darwin was a Naturalist.
Charles Richter was a Naturist...
(yes.... interestingly enough, the guy who invented the Richter Scale for Earthquakes and geological activity was a Nudist...)

But I do thank you for the clarification (and since you pointed it out, I won't change it and make your post moot). I'm sure a lot of people dont know the difference... It's just not something they teach in High school or College.

Interesting to read everyone's thoughts on this. I have a large gauge Prince Albert piercing which I've had for about 19 years or so. When I go nude I like to wear a very heavy stainless circular barbell in it. I shave, so it stands out. No one at Haulover has ever said a thing, although it gets a lot of looks. While at Gunnison last month for the first time, several people came up to ask me about it, or to take a closer look. I'm so used to wearing it that I thought it rather curious that the PA got such attention while there. I wonder why more men don't get one, I've had other piercings, and it's the only one I've kept.

I have a hafada, Prince Albert and ampallang. I have only been asked once. This was at Red, White and Blue beach north of Santa Cruz, CA.

The questions came from the Lady and her guy just took one look and looked away. He could not look at'em, you could see the pain in his face, just the thought. The Lady was full of questions and kept asking until her guy say's no he's not going to do it, and was getting visibly agitated. His girl was really interested.
