Skin Care...
| As nudists (and human beings), we are all about skin :-) LOL... and we expose a much greater surface area of skin to the elements than the 'textile' public... and while it is mostly beneficial, i.e. Vitamin D, and better, more natural temperature regulation, improved mood, etc. some of us have issues with our skin (the bodies largest organ), i know i do... after all if you are going to 'love the skin you are in' you have to take good care of it... does anyone want to share, any tips or special things you do to take care of your skin? Take Care, Daniel and Brenda | |
| Never really gave it much thought. I don't do anything special, just sunscreen when I'm out in the sun, regular bathing, and nude when possible and practical, that's about it. | |
| I have dry skin so I use a variety of Avon moisturizers in the form of hand and body lotions. But then, am an Avon Lady, so that comes naturally. I don't use oils because it almost always rubs off onto anything I sit on. Moisturizers just disappear on my skin somehow. | |
| Perhaps you use the wrong oils. Jojoba is very nourishing and will soak in quickly. To moisturize try honey, water and aloe gel. Allow it to soak in or soak in it by pouring some honey and aloe into the bath. if you haven't been out in the sun for awhile this mix will help you recover from sunburn. | |
| Oils are absorbed more easily if the skin is wet. After a shower apply before drying off. It does absorb. Baby oil works great this way. My skin isn't that dry but I do use Olay's Quench from time to time on my feet. | |
| I have vitiligo, which for a nudist is quite a problem. For those who don't know...vitiligo is a skin disease (non contagious) which results in losing skin pigmentation). So I don't go outside for any length of time without first applying sunblock all over. I use a sport spray which is water resistant. | |
| Is that the problem that Michael Jackson had? I had a girlfriend who was Italian with olive complexion, but had the same problem and had to make sure that she had on a sunblock. | |
| Yes, Michael Jackson also had vitiligo. And for him, being black, the lack of pigment made it all the more noticeable. That is why he purportedly bleached his skin, to make the splotchy non-pigmented areas blend in better. My vitiligo began about 15 years ago with the pigment disappearing from my hands and feet. Each year it progressed further up my arms and legs and involved my face as well. But with me being a fair skinned Caucasion, it's not as noticeable as it would be on a darker skinned person. | |
| I am in the process of losing a significant amount of weight. I had concerns about resulting loose skin. The recommendation I have taken is to do dry brushing daily and I am using Bio Oil. It makes my skin feel really great and absorbs quickly so no icky mess | |
| Skin pulling helps too as it returns elasticity to the skin and the fascia below it. | |
| How do you pull your skin? Can you describe the technique? | |
| It is used in several massage modalities to stretch and restore elasticity to the fascia that is the layer between skin and muscle. simply take a pinch of skin in one or both hands and lift. Slowly stretching it away from the body. It should be held for several minutes and then move over a bit and repeat. As elasticity is regained the skin is tighter and the body more flexible. | |
| Yes, like most I have skin issues too thanks to my Dutch/English ancestry. I keep block handy and in my back pack for hikes and around the patio. All my Arizona life doctors have said to me, "Why aren't you living in Vancouver?". I think the face is the most vulnerable. I moisturize all the time. Just good old moisturizer is good (expensive smells nicer) to keeps those free radicals in check since our face is out there and first to see the sun. Believe me you'll look "mavelous" and have the protection too. | |
| I put Baby Lotion on my nipples in the winter to help with Frost Bite/Wind Burn in the winter. They seem to get Wind Burn during the cooler months...Guess my Whole body needs more moisterizing.....year round!! | |
| Personally, I probably abuse myu skin far too much, no regularly applying anything. I remember hand lotion when my hands begin to burn/itch from chapping in winter. I have psoraisis but with treatments from my dermatologist, it's much better than before I began treatment. And, it seems he loves to attack "age spots" on my hands, arms, face, shoulders or herever he finds them with liquid nitrogen. Ma, it's cold. Jim | |
| I apply a small amount of body oil after showering. I use Vaseline body lotion for men to relieve dryness. Sun block when at the beach. | |
| I had a girlfriend that taught me to use baby oil before drying off after a shower, in order to help with my dry skin. I still do this, but my wife also has me using body lotion when my skin is really dry due to the winds that we occasionally get here in the desert. |
