Yes, there were a lot more bases in my time. Oddly, one of the bases that was considered a choice assignment was Wheelus AB, Libya. That was, of course, before the time of Moamar KaDaffy (I know it's spelled wrong, but it fits!).

I neglected to ask where all you were stationed. You can find a little more about me in Mil. Vets. and Active Duty group, under Air Force of course.

I was very fortunate in that I spent the last four months of my enlistment at RAF Lakenheath. Spent many hours in Norwich and Cambridge, but only made it into London for one weekend. I also spent a year at Melville Air Station, a radar site on top of a mountain ten miles from Goose AB, Labrador. What a winter that was! I started off like everyone at dear old Happy Lackland, lol, then went to acft radio school at Scott AFB, Ill. I was in one of the last classes to go through it at Scott, they then moved the school to Keesler. Scott was taken over by the Military Air Transport Service, which is now the Military Airlift Command (Originally it was the Air Transport Command). After that I got sent to Portland AB, Oregon, 90 miles from home. Then to Labrador, than to K.I. Sawyer AB in Michigan's upper peninsula. Not much different than Labrador except that winter's weren't quite as long. Then I got 4 mos TDY at Lakenheath, then back to K.I.Sawyer for discharge.
